IPE floor project, not your everyday job.

The final next step is to sand the floor and reveal the black stripes between boards?

I've done something similar (except using a V groove bit) to extend the life of an exterior porch floor.

What do you consider an un-approved use of the tools?

Is there not a finished picture

Hopefully in about 9 days I'll have the finished pictures posted. I have to wait until the SikaFlex fully cures before sanding and floor sealing.

In one of the photos it shows the MFK router reversed in the zero degree base. This leaves the cutter exposed. This is not recommended by Festool. But we all do what we have to do to get the job done. [wink]

How soon after application can it be walked on. How well will the soak flex sand an I assume you cut it flush first?

I thout about doing this in my bathroom at a nautical theme

They don't give a time frame for 'walkability', all the data sheet says is 5-7 days prior to sanding. I too am going to try to cut off most of the excess prior to sanding. I have to careful not to to scar the wood or pull the sealant out of the dado with my scraping / cutting. I like the idea of the bathroom floor.

nice use of the lr32 arms. they make perfect parralel guides for that job.

cant wait to see the  finished job.

as for removing the extra sealent.
could you make one of those router jigs that holds the router up on 2 wooden strips and then the cutter is lowered down to cut almost flush. you often see those jigs used in magazines for cutting plugs flush
it would well in you situation because you cant damge the floor easily with it

Like the offset router base on your porter cable. I see they do a similar base for the small Makita trimmer that I have, could be handy.

I think there is a multimaster blade for trimming sealant?

Here is a screen shot.  The cutter on the bottom would be used to remove sealant.  The center one should work if it is flexible enough whereas it doesn't have the offset o ride flush.  I'd take on of my worn out blades and sharpen it like a chisel and give that a try.

This is such a great solution to the problem.
Should look great!

Chuck,

That looks great. Well done!

Is this a 3 season room turned into an indoor/outdoor kitchen?

Did you make the cabinets and man doors, too?

Best,
Steve

Thanks Steve,

The room was designed and built to be an outdoor kitchen / entertaining area. Another FOG member tjbnwi and I built the room about three years ago. The cabinets, table, door, appliance install and job GC was done by yet another FOG member Dan Rush.

This has inspired me as I have a similar problem with my living room and dinning room oak floors.  I've been searching for an answer and think I've found it!  Do you see any problem with filling the routed dados with wood from salvaged floor boards?  Thanks for this post.
