Is Festool going to be upset with me if I mill a bunch of Centrotec bits and sell them?

Tired of the lack of selection in Centrotec. Are other suppliers allowed to make these without a license from Festool?

There only seems to be 5 or so Centrotec manufacturers out there. None of them claim to be selling Centrotec bits, they're just listed as Centrotec-compatible which makes me think they don't have/need a specific license?

You should be doing, or have someone working on your behalf, research on whether or not there are any patents on the Centrotec system and consumables, and really not relying on our advice - for your own protection. IMHO, meant respectfully, that is a vital first step for your own protection.

I recall mention of the patent dating back to around 2001, which means it will expire next year if so.

While I've modified existing .25" tooling to work with Centrotec by easing the hex edges and filing the groove higher on the shaft, I agree with Peter that you need to have some legal research done to find out if there are any restrictions or other factors such as licensing that might be required. While that has a cost, it's likely far less than any legal judgement against you might be after the fact if you don't dot your tees and cross your eyes... ;)
