Is Festool Planning to bring this Bench Saw to the US?

I guess they're planning to bring it to the US, but they still haven't gotten UL aproval for it yet, so they can't. If you do a search on "CMS" you can read more about it. It's basicly a table with different inlays, to make handheld powertools stationary tools. (like the routers, jig saw, and, in this case the ts55)

Yes, search on cms.  Doubtful this will make the US market because of UL issues, but why don't you post the question direct to Festool in the "Contact Festool" thread on this forum?

I mentioned it to a festool rep at a trade show and they said "you will never see it in the US because of UL".  He was very certain, so don't hold your breath.

and i think festool could get it past if they want......i am now thinking that they choose not to because it would be a money looser with the  exchange rates ect.  i want one by the way too.

I don't think so - the CMS system was available in Europe LONG before the dollar went t*ts up...

I have a CMS table with an insert for the TS 55 saw and the OF 1010 router. I'm very happy with it, especially because of my tiny workspace of 2 x 5 meter. It is very precise and versatile, a pleasure to use. I'm thinking of buying the MFT3 because of the extension in the form of a CMS table. Then I can have the saw and the router ready for action at the same time, no more switching when you forgot to do just one last handling. The fact that the CMS table and the MFT3 have the same height is a welcome bonus.
To my opinion, it is worth the effort to try to convince Festool to bring the CMS system to the USA.

Maybe im wrong here, but other than price is there any reason why a cms from europe wouldnt work in the states. I mean the saw, router etc, area all US spec'd motors so what would it be that is not compatible?

The CMS has a circuit-breaker/switch unit and power leads. That is electrical stuff and has to be tested. UL has to test if over 20 European countries are able to test electrical equipment.
But a strange thing is: in my partslist of the CMS table (about 2 years old) is a partnumber listed of a circuit-breaker/switch unit for the USA. PN is: 493473. So in my opinion Festool had once the intention of selling the CMS to the US market.

The part that would not be compatible is the no-volt release switch. I guess you could source an NVR in the US, and fit that instead of the Festool one. Then everything would work fine.

Other than that, there are 2 main problems;

1: Finding a European dealer prepared to ship one to the US;

2: Finding the money to pay for it all, and the shipping!

Hey, Can't they sell this here without the switch?
  I've used my router table without a switch for years.  I just reach under & turn on the tool.  This one even has a guard on top. ;)
  That would solve the UL issue.  They sliding table feature looks great for folks without a bigger table saw/crosscut sled.
  I've seen tablesaws on jobsites fashioned from sawhorses, plywood & a circ. saw.  This seems dramatically safer, just less convenient without the switch.

I believe they do have a long term plan to bring that saw to the US. I am quite sure one of the Festool trainers has already got one in his shop (not UL approved).

If it is the CMS I am thinking of don't expect to see it this year....

I would think this shows they want it here in the USA. This would also explain the switch to the new height of the MFT/3. Give them some time guys. I think we will see it by 2010 (1 1/2 years away).

i bet they release it magically after the US prices come more in line with the rest of the world. start with low prices and over time come up to where they want them, the joy of long term business plans.

That dollar price will be going up for us but it won't be worth as much to Festool when they deposit in their German bank. Personally, I don't like the prices of everything we buy going up but, being in manufacturing, it makes me more competitive with the rest of the world. We just won a significant project that was being made in Brazil and sold in Europe. It will be made and assembled here and shipped to Europe because we are now cheaper than Brazil. Now if I just didn't need to fill my gas tank...... ::)

I have also this table and it is really the best table I every work on. This is for my the second table, the first one I hat for 11 years.
I sell him for a great price and the one ho booth him was a very happy man.
The tables are famous for there accurate, a lot off kitchen builders and kitchen placers use them, there are very precise

I hope for you guys that he comes fast to the US, it will be here a great success.
