My local Woodcraft has some Festool tools - picked up the TID18/T18 combo on Sunday. They are getting low on several items, though. Another dealer says they have not received a delivery from Festool in a few months. Unfortunate reality.

Well, pretty slim pickings...a good selection of consumables but a pretty slim choice of main-stream equipment. Here's a shot of available tools and most of them have a label attached which stipulates that they are a DEMO ITEM ONLY. I'd take that means NOT FOR SALE TODAY.

Just not a lot to see...and no-one is happy about that. I ordered some DTS pads and it took 30+ days to receive them. Normally it'd be a 1 week window. Ordered some more parts today, we'll see how long it takes.

This is a world-wide phenomenon as every industry is effected. Guns...ammunition...cameras...camera lenses...mechanical watches...the list goes on.

I'd love it if you could send me some more photos of the Festool displays in that dealer...I need inspiration for improvement of our local display, assuming the tool shortage comes to an end.

That looks like the Festool-store-in-the-store look that I have seen in my country. If you are an official dealer you might enquire at Festool how to get into the programme…

Woodcraft in Minneapolis. Like Bert said, it's the Festool store-within-a-store merchandiser. You need some real estate to make it work and look good. When yesterday's purchases finally arrive, I'll take a few more photos for you.  [smile]

Their method is to have an assortment of Demo Tools in their work shop that you can use and test drive. Then there is a pretty complete set of Display Tools located in the photo area for people to touch and feel. When you want to purchase a New Tool, those items are brought out from the storage area in the back of the store in sealed Systainers so that you feel confident that all of the items are in there and 1 or 2 haven't been pilfered.

With the present situation, there aren't many New Tools in the storage area and some of the Display Tools have been sold so the Demo Tools are used for display instead just to plug the holes. Some of these Demo Tools are pretty rough looking because some have been used for several years.

Demo tools would be amazing.  It's one thing to pick up a driver and free-spin it, it's another to feel how it reacts when bits start to bite.

Festool is more of an after-thought at my local dealer, which has pros and cons.  Pro: they have multi-year-old tools NIB available to be purchased if you're looking for something rare/discontinued. Con: pretty much everything else that comes along with having a retailer that isn't knowledgeable in a product. 

Additional con, as Cheese pointed out with the sealed tools in storage: I have no idea if a tool sitting in the Systainer has been opened once or ten dozen times, if it has all of the items that should be included, and whether or not someone has swapped out the batteries or done anything else untoward with the merchandise.

As bad as the Woodcraft situation is, I just noticed that ACME's situation is close to critical. They're basically wiped out of Festool tools and consumables.

NO jigsaws, Dominos, routers, planers, only a couple of track saws and a couple of sanders is what they have available.

Yesterday at Woodcraft I attempted to purchase bags for the MIDI...none available so rather than order them and wait, I figured I'd just purchase them from ACME.

This morning I logged in to ACME to purchase the bags and then I could go over and pick them up. Unfortunately, they don't have any bags either and that's when I noticed that 85% of Festool items were not available.

Looks like FestoolNirvana has the filter bags for both versions of the CT MIDI. He’s in the Chicago area, so you could get them by the weekend.

Here in Copenhagen we have a well assorted physical store with good selection of Festool items. So I pretty well covered there. On the other hand I ordered sandpaper and centrotec bits from a company in Germany and haven't heard anything for 10 days on when they will be shipping.

I've dealt with them before and it's a solid company but previously I had a wait of 4 months for something that deeply disturbing, I think I found another supplier for a time, better prices too. But they have since disappeared, so I returned to my other company as they list absolutely every available Festool and for the most part deliver in a timely fashion.

Well at least some good news , I ordered the 50 mm bit set for the top attic insert and it's shipping now. I've had a tool addiction for many years now so more than well stocked on every front for present and future projects. But the sandpaper I just ordered are slow to arrive. Have enough for the foreseeable future.

What I think I'll save up for a the bigger items bandsaw, beltsander. And just start using what I have more, lots of projects that need to be done in the gardens that I take care of..

Hey [member=39505]jcrowe1950[/member]  I was over at Woodcraft today so I took some additional photos for you. I get to Woodcraft every 2 weeks as the stuff I've ordered just dribbles in at the rate of maybe 1 item every couple of weeks.  [sad]  I could go on but I won't.  [big grin]

  Thanks Cheese....looks like they used Kaizen foam as the base of their displays for some of the tools. Also, I like the security measures on the hanging items and the amount of space they dedicate to their tools and accessories.

Ya, the owner has a pretty liberal stocking policy to say the least. Yesterday I noticed the small Festool metric tape measure was no longer on the pegboard so I asked one of the guys if it was obsoleted. He replied that the owner was in a few weeks ago and instituted a new Festool stocking policy...if 2 or less of any item were sold within a YEAR, then they'd no longer inventory the item.  [blink] [blink]

Consequently,  the content just keeps growing.  [cool]

I've never been to mine here. Ok it's out in the valley though... Pretty sure my local place that carries a fair bit pays their employees a lot more since Woodcraft is like min wage - easy choice for me.
