Could it be that UL is still living behind the moon? How come it is soo difficult to get anything approved by them? I mean com on we are not talking about russian fighter planes that we want to buy...

UL approval is outrageously expensive to obtain, and they have their "code", which I don't believe has been modernized since the '60's. They don't care about safety, they care about cashing checks. Something like the pictured hose/cord combination can't possibly be acceptable, because they've never seen it before. UL=Dinosaur still walking.
I've got one but I never use it anymore as it is old and worn, but mainly because it doesn't work as well - hose is smaller inside because of the cable. I use cut off bits of inner tube (as mentioned in an earlier thread) but I like the idea of a wrap - just haven't found any here in france.
I would say its one of my rare festool purchases that I feel was not worth it.
