Is the MFK 700 enough for me?

I am a hobby woodcrafter and only do a couple of pieces every year and wondering if the MFK 700 is enough for me? What I like being able to do is:

- Grooves (8-12mm) for drawers  in plywood
- Grooves (18mm) in hardwood for LED strips
- Grooves (6mm) in hardwood for shaker style doors
- Trim edge banding

I currently have a very nice setup, Festool OF 2200 together with the CMS-OF router table and accessory kit. I have been able to do all of the above except trim edge banding, but I find it to be way overkill. I bought it second-hand when I was doing a kitchen for myself. I like to free up some space and could I essentially replace it with an MFK 700?

I’d go with the 1010 or the 1400. Either gives you a lot more flexibility and room for growth in your hobby.

I have the 700 and almost always prefer to use a very sharp block plane for trimming edge banding.

How would you machine the grooves…the 700 doesn’t have a plunge base.

For what you’re doing, I’d swap out everything for a 1010 with the Festool edge trimming accessories.

You’ll be putting $$$ back IN your wallet.  [smile]

These are the items I was referring to in my earlier post.

The MFK700 is a fantastic tool, very versatile and adaptable. I like it enough to have 2 of them....BUT, it's not really the thing for what you are describing. Even if you can do the grooves without needing to plunge (through cuts) I think you would be asking quite a bit from it to do 18mm groves in hardwood, depending on depth/ length of course.
The OF1010 is a far better choice especially with the edge accessories, as Cheese showed.
It is a bit more awkward than the MFK, but it will do bigger/deeper cuts than the MFK is capable of doing also. So, if edging is not the priority, the OF1010 will do the other tasks far better and still be adaptable to edging for the occasional need.

If your main activity is edge trimming or roundovers/chamfers, I would 100% recommend the MFK 700.
In my opinion, it is the best router out there for that use case, mainly due to the adjustability.

But as others suggested, for grooves, etc. you will be better of with the OF1010. You would also gain much more versatility including LR32 system etc…
