As mentioned, here in London I have seen FAR too many high end tools been sold at markets .Yesterday there was almost new Plunge kits with new rails and bags/clamps etc . Huge levels of Site Dewalt/bosch gear And what looked like the equivalent of at least 4 whole sites worth or lots of work shops etc

how about a "stolen" list , so people could help search ebay/gumtree and markets etc .

Dutch Police has a website where you can enter a serial number and check if it's registred as stolen (https://www.stopheling.nl/). The same way our variant of the DMV has a register where you can check frame numbers of bicycles to see if they are stolen (https://www.rdw.nl/Particulier/Paginas/Fiets.aspx). I know the latter works, although it still takes a committed citizen to harass the police multiple times to get them to contact the original owner... On the former; not so sure. There is also a police website here where you can check bank account numbers against online fraud, but that one simply never finds anyting...

But some of the stolen stuff is sold with erased serial number, so there is no way to tell, although it's pretty obvious in that case...

The same with Festools being sold "new" but without documentation, Plug-it cord and systainer. (Stolen from showroom...). Cheap deals from dealers selling empty systainers (+inlay) and plug-it cords means that they got stolen from.

Festool itself could create a register of stolen stuff, especially the newer stuff that is stolen under Festool insurance, since that already requires victimes to file an official police report.
But as long as police forces everywhere do nothing on this issue, no amount of registries, lists or equivalents will change anything.

How about a forum section then? so members etc could  post details of stolen items and ask others to assist in looking for them etc .

I want to know how markets can have some serious dealers with huge stocks every single week ? i also witnessed at least one guy buying 12 + hiltis  all looking very clean and complete. He seems to sell on ebay etc. by all accounts from others Some one must "be taking the hit" .If my gear was stolen, i would want as many "eyes and ears" looking for it !

If the seller on ebay is the one I think, I'm not sure that the items are stolen.  I think the seller may list items as "New", which aren't, at least judging by some of the photos. I also think he may include new items with used tools, and then list the item under "New". I've always presumed the tools are used tools he somehow purchases from the construction industry, either at auction, or maybe he runs a repair service or rental service, and sells off the tools when a contract is over. He just has way too many tools, and other Hilti swag for me to think all of it is stolen. Also, while Hilti in my area is sold directly by Hilti, or used to be sold by Home Depot, in some other parts of the country, Hilti used to be sold by independsnt companies.

These are stolen. Some of the sellers will grind off any ID/names etc for you or lend you a 18v grinder to do it yourself etc .The Ebay seller buys  up any electrical testers , hiltis and festool  he can .And i mean ££££ worth a weekend to then sell  on ebay.

There must be a lot of guys/businesses who would want to notify others of stuff stolen etc ? I am  talking "Travellers" selling these tools .
To think that guys might lose their business down to Tool theft is bad enough.  But to see such amounts been sold by the same sellers each weekend is a worry .There are others selling genuine bits and bobs when they upgrade .These are the good guys who just tend to "swap" around gear from month to month .I might buy a piece for one job and sell it on.I will never use it again for months and the cost of the use of it etc  is factored into the job. Cheaper than hiring !

I've got a pretty good idea, lol.

The local "traveller" that's begging in front of the supermarket here disappeared for a few months. Turned out she got convicted on a whole bunch of bicycle thefts. I guess she just phones some family in when she observes someone not locking his / her bicycle.

I'm in the USA so I think I'm talking about a different seller. If a serial number has been carved off, it's definately a red flag concerning theft.

I would like to hear from anyone that has their shop/tools stolen in the UK .
does not have to be "festool" tools . Any tools etc.I am trying to "form a chain"  8) 8)
This should be done by PM>
