Is this Too Many Colors?

Here's the Swedish government contingencies page:

That's some very interesting subject matter...it's obvious that Europe takes this as a serious concern. Pursuant to this day & age I found this recommendation pretty cute.
  • Use cash occasionally to maintain your level of preparedness and familiarise yourself with how cash looks and works.

Yeah, attitude related to cash is changing rapidly in Scandinavia. Sweden in particular was fast on its way to becoming a cashless society. There were shops that didn't even accept cash money anymore. You need to see that advise in that light. But now the government is campaigning to get people to rely a bit less on digital banking/payment. They recommend keeping enough cash to last you for a few days.

Nice van!

I like the selfie in there... but I must ask, what's in these Systainers?!? One looks like a poison symbol along with a place setting:

I’m guessing the 💥 is ammo?

I’m more intrigued by the poison symbol dinner plate combination

Also the bottom ? and alien

This is inspiring me to rethink my overly simplistic method of systainer labeling. Not nearly inscrutable enough!

Ha!! The top one’s a first aid kit, the second one down is an assortment of washers. The other two are full of bits & pieces which have nowhere else to go. The mad labels? I was sitting at the laptop choosing emojis for these minis. My granddaughter was very interested, so I let her choose the remaining six. Makes me smile every time I look at it 🙂

He might have retired, but now we know he is like a Genie who will appear if we mention his lamp van.

Store that one away guys for the future!

Peter

If he was in the US, I would have guessed that the explosion one would be powder-actuated concrete nailer charges. In the UK, I would doubt that the allow such a thing? I could be very wrong though.
The poison and food together is a curious combination.
Be sure to let her know what a stir she caused, buy people all over the world. I bet she gets a kick out of that too.

I am a big fan of color coding.

That is why I don't buy screwdrivers from Wiha; they all look the same. Not only they have only a few different sizes in grips... the color is all the same.

The grips of my PB Swiss Tool Swissgrip have another size grip for almost every size bit AND they have color coding; the tip of the grip is black (slot bit), yellow (phillips), green (pozidrive), dark green (pozidrive/slot combo), light blue (Torx), dark blue (Torx Plus), purple (allen), grey (hex socket). So if they are all thrown in a giant pile... you can pick out the right one by just looking at the size and color of the grip.

Sadly... Wera follows a slightly different color coding than PB Swiss.

For the Systainers; I have a mix with Makita blue, Metabo green, Tanos white with the blue latch, Bessey anthracite, Fein Orange. It helps with finding things. Especially when a family member calls me looking for something I can narrow it down for them buy pointing to a certain color box.

Yeah I boycott those. All of them. I see a restaurant with such a sign and I don't even care how good the food is... I can 100% make it to a place that does take cash.

A few years ago you wouldn't have heard a peep about this, at least outside of Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states. There never has been a serious "prepper" movement around here like you see in some places in the US. But now it has become something that is getting a lot of attention. Mostly because of the war in Ukraine, but also because people have become more aware of how easily things can get disrupted by abnormal weather events or hacks/accidents in cyberspace.
Well, these days what is in between "CONSPIRACY THEORY" and established fact or recommended policy... is just a matter of time.

The first day when Russia started messing with the natural gas supply during the current war I said "We need to reduce the use of gas-fired power plants and fire up the coal-powered once straight away". That was of course highly political incorrect... It took a few months and then exactly that was done.

I have had bottles of water behind the skirting boards of my kitchen for years. People laughed at me but now the government says... 9 liters per person in your household
I also never walk around without a bunch of cash. People laughed at me... but now the government says to have €70 per person... (although nothing is said about carrying it with you).

We had a nationwide disruption of card terminals and ATMs a while back... the grocery store put someone at the door telling people that you could only pay cash. Almost half the people turned around... what on earth (ok, a few probably back to their car to get cash they keep there).

There was one American expat going to that supermarket. He understood "cash only" as "no creditcards" and wanted to pay by debitcard. When he finally got the message that that wouldn't work he said "oh, then I go to the atm and get cash". It took another while for him to understand the ATMs were down too. 😆

The best was last September in a German gas station. The toilet was behind a swing gate.. €1 to get in. So you toss in a €1 coin and you're in. Zero delay, zero data connection. The lady in front of us insisted on Apple pay or some equivalent. And... "computer said no" :ROFLMAO:

Now that's funny... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Ya, the world's getting nutty, some places are now checks only, some are cash only and some are credit cards only. 😵‍💫

The credit card only thing - I don't "get". I mean, I get it, it makes things simpler and you don't have to manage cash in a retail environment. But I think the flexibility in cash is very important. It opens the door for those who may not have cards - and you always have cash on hand to spend as necessary.

One of my staff went on their own and opened their own coffee shop quite a number of years ago now. This person was very engaged with being connected to the more disconnected of society. So when they opened as a credit card only business, it raised my eyebrows as that policy excluded those people that they had been trying to engage.

Like Coen, I tend to patronize credit card only places less. But I still use cards - though I only started using Apple Pay this past spring (gotta say, it does make spending my theoretical money easier).

Here in Oz they're doing all they can to get rid of cash, but there's been a significant push back thankfully as most people realise it's a further aspect of the digital ID being forced on us all, so that all money and transactions can be accounted for, and hence taxed.

As our gov runs up the debt they continually try to find new ways to raise revenue.
