First this was the first time, I had the chance to ever see the Festool Truck.  I had such expectations, for my first encounter.  I realize, I wasn't supposed to be there. Thank you for disappointing me for the last time.  I wasn't  supposed to want to buy anything, still I planned to make a couple of purchases, until my wife was disrespected on the the trailer, being repeatedly bumped and never once an apology, until it was best I just went into the store itself.  Thinking it would be better.  My wife and I separated for a few, I heard her being asked if she needed help, and she replied that I, her husband, needed assistance, and the salesman just passed by, without even a hello, as if I didn't exist. I can't truthfully blame Festool, because it wasn't your people, but I can promise, I will never make another purchase through this dealer.  I took the day off for this event, drove 3 1/2 hours,  pay a premium price, for a great product, but if this is what I have to deal with, I'm just not interested.  My skin tone, should not define who I am, or my purchasing power.  I rarely see any African Americans, as happy as I am to promote Festool, and I haven't seen one so saddened by the 2 bad experiences I have faced with this retailer.

sorry you had a bad experience.

Woodcraft is just a mixed bag because many or all of them are franchises.  I dislike the rolling show just as much, but I'm not the target audience for it. It's too confined a space to adequately handle more than a few people for a couple of demonstrations.  It gets people jazzed up and drinking the koolaid.

It is impressive in it's scope and image promotion which I think is the whole point.

Anyway, Shane at ToolNut / FestoolProducts will help you out with whatever you need and won't cost you a cent xtra to have it shipped to your doorstep.

Yes indeed, great folks at The 'NUT!

Thanks, guys, appreciate the mention. [member=60713]Suganut[/member], we're here if you ever have questions or need help. We stock the full line of Festool and shipping is always fast and free. I worked for Festool for about 8 years and all of the guys at The Tool Nut know the tools very well and most of them use the tools as well.

Give us a buzz at 877-866-5688 or order online at www.toolnut.com or www.festoolproducts.com.

Also, feel free to PM me here on the forum. I usually respond very quickly even at night or on weekends.

[member=60713]Suganut[/member] I have had very mixed experience at my local Woodcraft. Some sales staff there are great, some have been pathetic and arrogant. Some are helpful and know their stuff, some have been clueless and told me completely wrong things after I finally got them to engage. I've been treated nicely and rude. Things have gotten better the past few years, I guess the boss finally got a clue, or maybe got a new boss, I don't know. Unfortunately they are my only local Festool outlet left, and they are 5 minutes away so I deal with it for the convenience, can't imagine driving 3 hours and having some of the experiences I've had.

The roadshow came here this year and it was a zoo, hard to demo much on that truck deck with wall to wall people but was still interesting to see a few new items, but to drive 3 hours for it would have been really disappointing as well. Take your business elsewhere, they haven't earned it. But as the saying goes, don't toss the baby with the bathwater, if a Festool product services your needs then don't short yourself by skipping a good tool because of a crappy dealer. You've got options as others have already noted.

Sorry for rude treatment you and your wife received; while living in a western suburb of Chicago (before returning to God's country) my wife and I were also treated rudely at a local woodworking retailer.  For that reason I turned to the web for my Festool purchases.  As has been posted, there are any number of helpful, respectful Festool dealers on line.  As you interview potential folks with whom to spend your money, you might give Bob Marino a look; not to take anything away from any other on-line dealer, most are very stand-up folks.  If you look at my signature, all but 2 of the Festool items listed were bought from Bob.

Best wishes,

DrD

Really sorry that happened. We only have one Woodcraft in the Seattle area, but it's awesome and the folks that work there are lovely. The stores are locally owned and managed (it's a franchise, as noted) so the quality can vary. Let corporate know about your experiences--they will come down on the local store since this impacts their overall brand.

Some people speculate he actually lives here ;D

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I wasn't at that event, so I can't speak to the specifics one way or the other. However, I've attended Roadshow stops at other Woodcraft stores, and the people were helpful and friendly. I've also been at Roadshow stops where well-intentioned workers were simply overwhelmed and out of their element. (Having worked several Roadshow dates, I can attest to it being easy to get flustered and overwhelmed.) Obviously, that doesn't help you in your specific event, but that's experience.

I appreciate your honest feedback about this. Hopefully your next experience with Festool and our dealers will be a more positive one.

Thank you, I do appreciate it, it has not diminished my belief in Festools products.

Hi Saganut,

I too live in jacksonville (Atlantic and Hodges area) and I also have a second home in Atlanta.  I've had my experiences with Woodcraft as well (on both locations).  I've taken a class in the Woodcraft in Atlanta and been to the Jacksonville one more than one occasion.  It is truly a mix bag of service experiences.  Mostly negative.  I only go to them for things I need "now" (as a hobbyist that's almost a silly statement).

In recent months I've invested a significant amount $$$$ from online vendors, Toolnut/Festoolproducts.com, more than the others)...To this day no one is perfect.  By comparison Woodcraft to toolNut/Festoolproducts.com experience is just day and night.

So Vote with your hard earn $$ my friend and apologies for your horrid experience.

btw:  i was going to fly down just for that Festool truck demo...but, instead I'm going to the free one in Atlanta store today.

Just a quick add-on to the conversation.  I just went to the schedule woodcraft ( Atlanta) festool demo (1:00PM-2:00PM) and absolutely NOTHING!.  There was no demo... just the staff talking about lunch, etc.  got there early and leaving now.  When I asked they smiled and asked what do you wanna know?  I asked about the of1010, ETA ec150 ... quoting here .."ummm... that's a router and the other... let me see... I think it's a sander..."

So even though , I came with the intention to buy the OF1010, and the sander... I'm going to hold off and go to amazon.

Picking up some wood ( ply) instead and something else from my most hated (next to my house) box store.

[member=40772]Holmz[/member] - while what you theorize certainly happens, I think you're waaaaay off base here.    People are just odd.

I've seen the same nonchalant behavior from sales drones happen to a well dressed heiress at an upscale store trying to order pulls for her bath cabinets.  The "associate" ; cough, I mean "weasel" ignored both of us for twenty minutes or so and then proceeded to tell her "she didn't want those handles, they're really expensive."  The whole time she's pointing to the picture in the catalog with a $500,000 ring on her finger repeatedly saying "no, I want 24 of these".

Black, white, man, woman, hispanic, asian, christian, muslim, jewish, hindu, ect.....everyone eventually runs into some sort of bias in a public setting.  But I don't think we've gone backwards.    This behavior has been around ever since civilization became large enough to have distinctive groups that met each other.

Like the example above I think Suga just ran into someone who didn't want his money for no reason in particular.  Nerves seems to have run into the same species.

For certain there is a media stir, but it's not all sunshine and rose either.

In addition to the centuries old human conflict I mentioned, there is an erosion of respect and civility between people in general which leads to a lot of this.  At least in the U.S.

I have absolutely no idea what the current is in your part of the world.

FWIW one of the better sales reps at my local woodcraft is a lady, and I've seen a few male customers treat her rudely in a way they don't the male reps. She handles it well and (to some degree) is paid to put up with the jerks, but it's the jerks loss not interacting with a nice, helpful intelligent person.

[member=60713]Suganut[/member],  So sorry you had yet another negative experience with the Woodcraft store in Jacksonville.  I remembered reading your first post regarding your Domino purchase:
http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-sales-dealer-area/festool-sales/msg449183/#msg449183

Having been stationed at both the Naval Air Station Jacksonville and the Naval base Mayport (adjacent to Jacksonville), I just don't remember Jacksonville as being hostile to minorities in general (it being such a large and diverse military town).  Of course, I was there back in the 1970's, and things could have changed.  My perspective at the time was that of a young man, who socialized with primarily young people.  It certainly was a different time.

Hopefully, your confidence level with on-line purchases will increase over time, and you can eliminate the need to make actual purchases from the store, limiting your visits for viewing only.

[member=60452]McNally Family[/member], thank you very much, and believe me it's definitely just going to be that.  I won't count out all the stores, just because of one.  That wouldn't be fair to the brand.

I admit this is my fault in all honesty.  I have to remember that when I  go into any facility, the $ I spend are mine to determine where they will be spent.  After all some of the items I buy can be bulky, so I might as well take advantage of some of the free shipping options that are available.

I'm still addicted to Festool.

We need a few more discounts, but they work.

Shane and Bob are both great. Your only problem will be deciding which one you like more!

Suga - are you trying to say you're one of the few folks that got a Pro5 last month and that the $50 rebate got you to drive 7 hours to buy another Festool ?

I'm sure Tyler and co. would be happy to hear that, as I bet that's what they originally intended to the promotion to generate.

This initially riled me up, but upon closer reading I am finding your sarcasm and wit level is putting me at ease. [wink]
