The Jacobs chuck from my T18 has frozen. It comes off the drill but I can't get it to turn/open either on or off the drill. I called Festool support and they recommended that I send it to them. I'll do that if I must but if anyone knows something I should do/try first, I'd like to avoid the time to repair.

Ron,
Is it stuck in the completely open or closed position, or somewhere in the middle?

With the chuck on the drill, try twisting it all the way clockwise then counter clockwise. Don't use the power of the drill, just use your hand. The ratcheting feature locked it open and this should unlock it.

No luck. It moves a little bit one way and then the other, but it's very difficult. Most of the time when it moves, I can hear the gears(?) in the drill moving. But it really doesn't move much at all. Sigh...wonder what I did.

Spray it with WD40, let it sit for a while and then try again. A jacobs chuck can get stuck if tiny chips get in the mechanism, you don't necessarily need to do anything wrong.

I had the same thing happen on the one with my CXS.  I sent it in and Festool sent me a new one.  No questions asked.
