With the Black Friday sales coming up I'm looking at the Jet portable Table saw. I have the track saw so I know it won't be ton. So not wanting to invest a ton in a large saw how does the jet stack up compared to a dewalt or the other small saws? Mostly use it for ripping smaller items. Can one use a large bandsaw for ripping boards? Just a thought.

My experience with table saws is that insufficient power, dull blades, and wood that is warped or not straight all can produce dangerous results. A fence that doesn't stay true to the blade is also a source of danger due to binding. A table saw that vibrates an jostle a cutoff into the blade launching a dangerous projectile.

If you can find a small table saw that has lots of power, a good fence, and doesn't vibrate; you have a chance of success. I am a convert to Sawstop. It's a well made saw with an unique safety feature and meets the above criteria.

There are also lots of older Delta Unisaws with the US made motors that are great saws at reasonable cost.

Yes you can use a bandsaw for ripping, having a jointer/thickness planer doesn't hurt for that.

I've had a dewalt 645 for 6 years, gets used several days a week. It's nice to tackle repetitive cuts/smaller items that a tracksaw isn't ideal for.

I work on site typically, I sure like being able to carry my tablesaw with 1 hand and miter saw with the other.

I don't have any experience with Jet power tools. For ease of repair/replacement parts my gut would tell me to go for dewalt or bosch.
