Jigsaw??

What is the best Festool jigsaw to get for mobile applications? I'm leaning toward a battery powered jigsaw, but not sure....

The only battery jigsaw is the Carvex.  Older Trion model is corded.

If I were doing it again, I would get the battery version over the cordless.  The dust extraction is not great, such that I almost never hook it up on my corded version, so it would be all the same to just lose the cord too.

D handle or barrel grip are your choices.

For mobile cut the cord if you can. I like my Carvex, but it's corded.

If I were doing it again, I would get the battery version over the cordless.

Thanks, folks. I'm thinking cordless here... Just really hate having to recharge batteries. But I suppose, how much do you really use a jigsaw anyway?

Depends on what kinds of projects you do

^This^ is the key.
If you only use it to cut pallets up, or PVC piping, then a battery powered one may be good. And some find that it is a pretty useful tool, and then it gets used a lot.

If you do not have a clear need then you may not actually need it right away. And if you have some clear needs, then maybe the corded one is what you really want/need?

Jigsaw work for me tends to be intermittent, even though I, too, use it on almost every project.  So in principle the cordless would not present any kind of obstacle in terms of recharging wait time.  The full set comes with two batteries anyway....wait a minute.  I was just checking the Festool website to confirm that there were two batteries, and there's a message on the site that it's discontinued.  Did I miss a thread/announcement on the FOG about this?

EDIT: My bad.  Scrolling down the page I see there's the newer model psbc model.  Huh, why doesn't Festool simply remove the icon/page for the psc?

PSBC is just the D handle version, which is also without battery and charger.  You're right, they discontinued the versions with batteries.  I guess they are banking on most people getting a cordless drill or track saw first, then adding to the cordless arsenal.

So is it 2 batteries cheaper now?

The carvex makes sense if one wanted a cordless jig saw, and there may be better options for a corded jig saw.

I use a jig saw a fair amount, but I could probably get by with a cordless unit. I do not mind the cord though.

For a cordless the FT may be the bast.

I got a barrel grip Carvex, which is terrific, before the cordless version was available.  I do most all my work in a shop and need dust collection.  It's a good solution for me because if you connect a DE connecting a cord is not a big deal.  That said, if mobility was a need, I would go cordless for sure.

I also bought the barrel grip Carvex before the cordless versions came out. If I had  it to do all over again, I would definitely get the cordless version. I find the dust collection on the jigsaw to be a waste of time, so once I ditch the vac hose, I may as well lose the electrical cord as well. Plus, cutting circles with the cord is a bit of a pain. BTW, I find I have much better control with the barrel grip over the D handle.

Bottom line IMHO: cordless barrel grip Carvex is the way to go...

I chose the corded Carvex. It is by far the best jigsaw that I have ever used. I looked at the Bosch very carefully as it is well reviewed as well. The available bases and the circle guide are so easy to use and take the jigsaw to another level. Cutting the cord (not literally) has appeal but since I go to great lengths to control dust, I have a dust extractor connected whenever I can so I have a hose there and might as well have a power cord connected to the dust extractor too.

Have to say that I really struggled with my jigsaw purchase. Tried the Carvex and imho just couldn't get to grips with it. Found it impossible to get straight cuts, and as already said struggled with the De, not what I've come to expect from festool.  In the end I went for a red jigsaw.  It does bug me (and my Ocd)  that I'm out of the system and now just cannot use my plug it cable. But what a jigsaw, really powerful, straight cuts and excellent DE (above the cut line). My only gripe if you can call it that is that there are no led lights.

Flashing LEDs aside, if one is just going for a jigsaw that cuts nice, then it is had to go wrong with the Big red one.

The red one is the way to go if you want the ultimate jigsaw experience...but, the Carvex is my second vote.
