John Lucas RIP

His website was a great asset to woodworkers, and he was a gracious host (I visited him a couple of years ago.)

I will definitely miss John, and he will be in my thoughts every time I pick up a Festool.

I just found this thread.  What a shock!  I've lost a great mentor.  My sincere condolences to his family.  He will be missed, indeed.

Such sad news.  His website and inputs were very much appreciated by myself as well.

As I was reading the obituary that was provided by Hoover above, I noticed this:

"In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American ALS Association of RI, 2915 Post Rd., Warwick, RI 02886 or to Kent Hospital Foundation, 455 Tollgate Rd., Warwick, RI 02886. Arrangements by Winfield & Sons Funeral Home."

Not sure of whether his family will see what is written on FOG (or other forums for that matter), but I'm sure they will be notified of contributions...

John will be missed. His contributions to the woodworking and Festool community are immeasurable.

John's articles and reviews have a permanent spot in my library. RIP John Lucas.

my well wishes go out to his family.  he was full of great information.  the sad part about dying is you never get to read all the post about you, even though you usually know how your friends feel about you.

3 1/2 years ago I had quad bypass,  it took me about a month to be able to go upstairs and get on the computer, my daughter had posted updates on another forum I am on JLC and it was fun and touching to read all the post my friends joked and said, to this day I still about 2-3 times a year bring up that thread and re read.

he will be missed around here.

Very sad to read this. His input here was of great value. My sympathies go out to his beloved ones.

It is a shock to read this news. He did a lot for the woodworking community. And with the Johns Angels were his instructions more interesting to read. He will be missed, and not only by his family.

Very sad to hear this news.  John was an inspiration to many folks in the woodworking community.  He will be missed indeed.

Heart felt thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.  You are in our prayers.

Sad news indeed, he will be missed.  ALS is a horrible disease that steals life away from you.  My grand-mother died from this about 2 years ago.  This disease robs you of everything, motor skills, speech, ability to walk, take care of yourself, etc - yet leaves your mind fully in-tact so you're aware of what's happening.

WOW, what sad news!!  I've spent many hours learning at his website, and exchanged a few emails with him.  He was always most helpful and gracious, always the humble student as well as the honorable professor of woodworking.  My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family.  A memorial to him of some sort by FOG and other woodworking groups seems most appropriate to me.

I'm sorry to hear this.  John will be missed to all here.  I've been influenced by his reviews and demos and will miss them.

Wow!  What a bummer.  John and I exchanged emails over the past 6 years.  He never failed to help whether it was some advice for a project I was making or a comment I had regarding jigs or his projects.  He also helped me with Web page advice.  I have never met John...But just as with many others here in Cyber space...you form a bond of friendship..pretty amazing.  God bless you John and your family!

I hope there will be a way to preserve his site info and transfer it to another forum  or server...so much great info!

Dang, totally bummed me out.  I loved his site and will miss him.  He helped me on a couple of occasions as well.

John was an inspiration and help to so many.  Truly the world is not quite the same.  My condolences and thoughts go out to his family and his assistants.  I can't imagine their loss.

[crying]

Bye John (snif)

Tell us if they have a Festool cordless impact driver up there.

Wow.  I was on the road for a few days and return to find this news...

John was a huge inspiration.  And an institution in the woodworking community for advice, demonstration, and giving of his time.

He'd PM or email me directly at times when I had a question posted here or on SMC - making sure I understood or suggesting other ideas.

He was a caring man and a great teacher.  My thoughts and prayers go out to John's family.
