Joining MFTs

It seems like a lot of money for two pieces of key stock (essentially).  Just wondering if anyone has invested in the FT MFT joining splines and what are your thoughts.  I work primarily in old houses, so flat floors are not common.  Many times I’ve had to shore up one or more legs on a single MFT, which is fine.  I think doing so to multiple tables might be futile. Thoughts?

I regularly join MFTs, both the MFT/3 and MFT/minis. Joining them provides a surprising increase in stability/stiffness. As for flatness, it's rarely perfect but it's generally pretty close, even outdoors in customer's yards. when perfectly coplanar is important you can always use a wood shim to fine tune things.

If you're interested, you're welcome to visit my shop again and we can play around with the keys and tables. Be safe out there!

I have some MFT's that are joined 90% of the time. Others that are individual or joined as needed.

Makes for a stable platform.

Tom

Nice set up Thom, I joint 2 MFTs end to end then when needed I add my 3rd, some times when using my CMS VL Ill join them in a L to use the 3rd as a out feed.

I like the way you got that paper roll at the end to protect the MFTs when finishing parts

I have a MFT and considered another one so I could cut cabinets the long way.  Instead I went with the Parf Guide drilling system and now have a 3'x6' cutting table.  Much cheaper and just as accurate.

Thanks, Mike A.
