Jointer / Planer?

It looks like Festool has a new-ish handheld planer available, of course, NAINA.  Not surprising, but definitely interesting.  If they can make a 9.5" handheld planer that works on 2300 watts, you'd think that a similar sized CMS module would be a possibility.  The 205mm version pulls 2000 watts - which is a good 200 fewer... enough to clear the UL?  Build an insert that planes, and can be flipped over to joint.

Only real question is - would it be worth it for something that would cost more than a 10" Hammer j/p? :)

You can see it in use by Timtool in this thread.

Yeah, that's what got me thinking about it.  Given all of the possibilities of the CMS platform, I'm honestly surprised that we haven't seen some really wild concepts over the years.  I know they want to leverage the existing hand tools, but there seems to be so much more that they could be doing with this framework.

I just wish they'd come up with dedicated professional quality machine modules for the CMS system so I could keep my hand tools as such and have first class controls and gizmos on the table modules while still retaining the minimal space requirement for the machines.

While I would really like to see a CMS based jointer/planer, I would have a very hard time paying that much money for one.

Cheers,

Paul

they do make a jointer of sorts
You can take a 850 planer, buy the bench attachment and make a bench top jointer out of it.
With the accessory edge guide you can use that to joint with.

Per had a article / thread here how to use it to surface a rough boards.
I go between the bench unit and CMS for jointing.

Now a thickness planer is something I would like festool to come up with.
The only really issue would be dust extraction for it.
I dont think the CT can keep up with the large amount of chips coming from a thicknesser.
for light use a few small cuts yes it can, but to support large amounts no it cant.

Id also like to see festool come up with a small drum sander for the CMS
