well here it is.  let us know when you picked it up and how it was to set up etc and do you feelo better now!  does any one have numbers of kapex sold today

I'm curious about the most extreme thing someone did to get a Kapex. Surely, someone has a story about standing in line in front of their local dealer at 7:59AM!

C'mon Festool fans, George Lucas can't release a movie without someone dressed up as Darth Vader outside the theatre. Am I to really believe there are no pictures of Per wearing a Kapex costume? If not, I may have to photoshop him into one!

Wasn't there a plan for a Hawaii dealer to have a midnight June 30 Kapex party so they would be the first to hand over the tool?

One thing scares me about this, Per. I'm not sure where this tattoo is on you but I'm hoping you didn't use anatomy to represent the dust port opening!  ;D

I got it...I got it!  Picked up my Kapex at 9:00 AM EST.  It barely fit in the back seat of my car (I gotta get another truck).  The box was simple to open and remove the contents.  Festool even upgraded the manual to a thick cover (I expected a cheap bifold piece of paper).  Initial set-up toke about 5 minutes.  Everything was in alignment and ready to go.  At first I thought the horizontal adjustment was messed up, but I quick realized that the lock was engaged and then I found movement was smooth as silk.  The lazer appears to be set correctly.  It might need a very small adjustment just to meet a personal preference.  The saw is quiet at all speeds.  The sound stays at the same level from free spinning to cutting through some scrap oak.  Cuts like butter, and the end result is clean without blade marks.  There is not start-up torquing and the blade is dead silent (no ringing here).  All controls are easy to understand and use within minutes of reviewing the controls.  Dust extraction is very good (95%), but if compared to my DeWalt I would rate it Excellent!

My wife noticed immediately that she could barely here the saw in our kitchen which is just above my woodshop.  This is a major deal in our house.  I have addressed all the negative issues with having a basement shop including dust, ingress and egress of materials and now I have reduced the noise level.  As a matter of fact, all the festool tools are significantly lower in noise.

A few other observations:

1) Saw can be placed up against a wall without interfering with movement

2) Balanced and easy to carry

3) I did not check, but there appeares to be rubber feet for bare table use (will not scratch a nice table if used)

4) The position of the vertical handle is very comfortable (I have used only a DeWalt horizontal handle in the past).  This is not an issue guys.

5) All safety mechnism work without creating frustration

OK, that is my first impression, right out of the box.  If it is in your budget, this saw is worth ever penny of its $1,300.00 price tag.  Starting tonight, I am building a dedicated 2' x 8' saw table with Kreg saw stops.  This baby deserves a nicely built table with lamenant surfaces and nice nice rubber "T" grooved bumpers around all the edges.  I wonder if I can find some Festool Navy Blue and Flourecent Green Formica or Wilsonart sheet goods to compliment my saw station.  :)

I've got someone coming over to do a demo for me tomorrow...we'll see...I know I'm going to be in big trouble with the "boss" if I pull the trigger  :'(...but I'm willing to suffer  ;D

when they first were discussed, I swore to myself that'd wouldn't ever need a Kapex, no how, no way. Now I've seen one in person. Hmmmm...  Naw, don't need it.  Now I've been reading the various posts.  Hmmm...  Get the Lanacaine!  I'm starting to get the itch!  Let's see, how many sales do I have to make?  ???

I walked into my local Rockler today and figured you needed to order it online, but low and behold there were two units sitting right there in the front of the store just waiting for me to take it home, but I resisted. It was dang hard, but I managed to walk out without it in my care. Sniff sniff!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bonesbr, that was just mean! Leaving that poor defenseless Kapex there in the store all by itself. It was calling to you. Couldn't you hear it? Buy me. Buuuuyyyyy mmmmeeeeeee! Geez. What does it take? You probably kick puppies, too...

Chris, it's on Shane's desk and you should see it soon in the next SysNotes e-mail news letter. Shane is slaving away updating the Festool site so he's a little behind on getting the SysNotes out this month. Since updating the site is pretty important to all of us I'm willing to cut Shane little slack. I do have one page of the review up on my site as a teaser. Kapex review, page one.

Brice,

Can't wait to see more!  Looking good so far.  Thanks  Hey Shane c'mon this should have been available electronically pre-launch.

Timmy C (and his young son) from FestoolJunkie.com drove some 12 hours or so to Denver to deliver one in a hotel lobby at 12:01am to a long standing customer (There's a pic on his blog).  From what I understand, he made a loop to deliver 5-6 spending some time helping people set them up, and showing the features.  What a great gesture that is.

Ron,
It was Canada Day, a statutory holiday for us on July 1st.  I couldn't buy a Kapex that day, because all of the stores are closed in Canada.  Instead I drank beer until I turned green that day - in honour of the Kapex release (oh yeah and Canada's birthday!).  How's that for dedication!  Take that Trekkies and Star Wars fans!

Cheers,
Cannuck

I just ordered a Kapex with crown stops from Uncle Bob today. It should be here in a few days in time for my next install. I look forward to not having to lug my 70 pound Hitachi to the job site.
