Hey Guys,
Just got the Ro 90 to round out my stable of Festool sanders.
Now I have the
RO90
RO 125
ETS 150/3
RTS 400

This should cover all/most of my sanding needs  :)
Are there any others that you would recommend for a hobbyist furniture builder?

Thanks,
Frank

Setting yourself up to empty the wallet Frank.  [big grin]

Frank, seems you got everything well covered with those four sanders. I would replace the RTS with a DTS sander, much nicer. If you do a lot of wood shaping, like seats, then you might think about adding a RAS 115.04.

Frank,

You are off to a great start.

Perhaps a ls130 and/or rs2 would make the long term wish list.

Looks like a great selection...I agree that an RS2E is a must for furniture and cabinet making -- this is an awesome sander.  I really like the RAS too and it can do sculpting and rough work faster than the Rotex.

Any others?? I know professionals who's only sanders is an old makita RAS sander for a 5 man crew!

+1 on the RAS.  Just got it a few weeks ago and it has already unexpectedly come in handy on random tasks.  People call the Rotexes "wood-eaters" but the RAS truly eats wood and makes the Rotexes seem like...well...aggressive sanders.  For stock removal where a router or saw won't work well, the RAS is awesome.  Not to mention a myriad of other obvious uses such as stripping and polishing.

Though I will say that the lack of plug-it tail and the oval dust port are minor annoyances that make it not as "perfect" of a user experience as other Festools.

hey zac
as you have an ro90 and an ro125 could you tell me if the pads are interchangeable?

I think adding the RS2E and DTS400 are your best options for making sandpaper manufacturers rich - tha way you'll manage to have the widest range of sanders that do not share pad formats  [big grin]

No belt sander? (Do you guys have the belt sander in NA?)

I have the DTS400 - big improvement over my Rupes Delta ... I won't add the RTS400 though - just the RS200 (RS2E in NA).

Kev,

No Festool belt sanders for sale in North America.  I believe Porter Cable still holds the title for most popular brand of belt sander in the states.

Frank,  I'd seriously consider looking over the LS 130 EQ.  I've built some small pedestal tables and I sure wish I had a way to blend in the center radii that I had to do by hand with a foam block.  My fingers still take the brunt of the work sanding molding router or shaper burns or defects.  The LS 130 is definitely in my future purchasing plans.

I was looking at the LS130 and it looks nice

Frank, one of the table I built that I wished I had that LS 130 is attached.  The center section where the legs meet was a bear to finish and if I had another order to build another of these I buy the LS 130 in a heartbeat.

Frank and Everyone,

As I have mentioned more than once, I own at least one each of most Festool electric and non-powered sanders.

Since I started buying Festools in 2006 I have limited my woodworking business to cabinets and similar products. Going back to 1946 I used to also build furniture.

For me the LS130 is very useful to sand complex profiles, especially for cabinet doors and drawer fronts. All of my friends who do build furniture, either as a business of hobby, own and use the LS130.

I have owned a Deltex DX93 long before the RO 90 DX was introduced. I am used to the finish sander low power of the DX93, so I reach for it often. All of the cabinet makers working for me prefer the RO 90 in DX mode. At least both use the same delta paper.
