I've just watched a bunch of episodes back to back. I've never visited any part of America like that ... is any part of America really like that? [eek]

Me too. I think everywhere has places (and people) like that - we just call them different things.

It was 1990 and I was on  QANTAS flight, LA - Sydney. Seat back screens were yet to be introduced.
Therefore most pass angers had just finished watching the then popular Australian series 'Bush Tucker Man' which was presented by a rather eccentric ex Australian Army Bush/outback survival expert.

At the end of the program, a very 'proper' Englishman turned to me and said, "Surely ALL Australians are not like THAT!"
