KA+ White very thick

Though I have lurked here before this is my first real post. I have been reading through lots of old post to try to see if anyone has had this issue before with the KA+ white.

I ran into an issue with some cans of KA+ White being very thick. I opened the can and was ready to spray. Ran it through a #4 Ford cup because it looked thicker that it should be and got 95 sec!

This was tinted to SW 6232 Misty.
Since I wanted to move forward (stupid choice) I sprayed the thick KA+. It went on well but will not fully harden. It is not tacky but is soft.

Went back to the store and checked an additional can (not tinted) from a different batch. Same viscosity.
The store is supposed to looking into this to see if this is a larger issue or something with their stock. They have ordered new KA+ White and it should be in Thursday.

Has anyone ran into this or could at least explain what could cause the thick KA+ White?

Hello KA+ is very thin product.
That batch was probably spoiled last winter, chilled or frozen during transport
They should have recognized the problem right away
 
I wish they would have. I also should have not tried to force the issue and spray it. I now have some sanding in my future.
Hopefully the fresh stuff they get in Thursday will be the expected viscosity.
 
Brewster you must be using a different KA+ then I am, just got 3 gallon from SW head office in Brampton and all 3 needed to be thinned before they could be sprayed which for me has been the norm since I started using the product in the winter 2016. In my case the Sherwood primer actually has less viscosity than the topcoat. Maybe your supplier is thinning their mix.
 
Hello I purchase mine from a Hamilton dealer just down the road from you. I have gone through 20 gals this year and all have been a very thin viscosity. It's my understanding that if the product goes through a freeze cycle it gets thick
These gallons are not re-poured from a 5 gallon pail. The viscosity spec 18-22 seconds #3 Zahn Cup
 
Per the TDS the
Surfacer Viscosity 26-30 sec in a Zahn #3 (approx 50-60 in a Ford#4)
KA+ White Viscosity 18-22 sec in a Zahn #3 (approx 30-40 in a Ford #4)
I find the conversion charts vary but what it shows in general is that the KA+ White should be thinner out of the can than the Surfacer.

My results thru a Ford #4
Surfacer 50sec
KA+ White 95sec

Opposite of what should be expected.

Maybe all of my local store stock was from the winter. Fresh stuff should be in tomorrow or friday. Hopefulyl that solves the issue.

Not easily. The store I get it from is close by. It is a regular residential store. Some nearby pro stores just carry the clear. I guess they could order KA+ White for me as well.
I ran into an issue sourcing the surfacer as well. Had it shipped to me.
 
Just a quick update. I stopped by the SW store today. They got in the new KA+ White and it was the proper viscosity.
They are waiting to hear back from HQ if there is a larger issue or if this was a localized issue. Possibly from freeze thaw as brewster said.
Now I just have to sand off the thick KA+ white...should have never sprayed that.

Were you compensated for their mistake?
 
Originally I had 4 KA+ white tinted. As I mentioned in earlier posts, I sprayed one of those thick gallons in a failed effort to move forward. So I had 3 spoiled gallons I didn't use. They gave me 4 new KA+ White.
 
So I guess a good PSA for anyone using KA+( or I guess any other product). Trust the viscosity measurement on the TDS. If it doesn't matchup to what you have in front of you.....don't use it. Might be old, might have gone thru a freeze thaw either way there is chance it will not perform as expected and then you will have to remove it and start again.
