Hi Everyone

I have been using the microphone on my camera for all of my videos and a couple of loyal subscribers commented that the sound quality could be improved...

So, I did some market research and came up with a cheap and cheerful solution for about UK Pounds 100, including taxes. Ages ago Paul Marcel suggested I wear a plaid shirt in one of my videos (like Norm Abram) - well you can see my efforts!

Here is the video:

Hi Peter,

If it's just for video recordings like yours above, an even cheaper "wireless" option is to use your phone or a digital voice recorder. Pair either with a lapel microphone and you can get quality audio as good as, if not better than, a wireless microphone. Once you have the audio file, it's fairly easy to synchronise with the video track from your camera. Might be an option for some people who don't do discos or charity auctions... ;-)

I totally agree with using the iPhone to record your sound track.

I have tried numerous wireless mic's and found them all problematic in one way or another. Wireless mic's can be very flakey and unless you've got someone monitoring the sound file as you record it, invariably you find out tooooo late.

Mic's on camera's invariably suffer from echo distortion to a lesser or greater degree.

By far the simplest, easiest, arguably cheapest, and IMHO the best method of getting a very good quality sound file is to use a Lav mic and your iPhone to record the sound file and then sync it to your video file.

As Far as brands go I use and suggest you can't go wrong with; "Rode" try their Lav Mic for iPhone.

I use 'Pure Audio" App ( because I'm used to it) but I believe Rode has their own App now.
A little trick is right at the start...
right at the start of your video stand facing the camera and "clap" your hands together as a sound sync "cue". Make sure you can see and hear the clap and you will find sound sync quite straightforward....

Exactly the same as the Hollywood clap board... Take 7249... " Clap".... Action!...

Good Luck...

Thank you for the advice about the iPhone - I must get one.

I have already created a clapperboard...
