Hi all,

Out of nowhere my Kapex has starting acting up..

Started sparking lots and smelling, cant upload a video here but looks like its arcing between the copper contacts?

Sorry for being vague as im not very mechanically minded!

Is this a case of buying a part and swapping over?

Many thanks

I think others have reported replacing the brushes first - as long as it hasn't started smoking. After that, I think it's Armature replacement. What year is the build on the saw? Seems that those from 2012-2015 have the most issues.

Sounds like an armature problem. If it's, you can replace it following the procedures you can find in this forum for the Kapex.

If you aren't mechanically minded or are in doubt after reading the procedures, you can get it fixed by Festool. I think you can save about 50% to 60% by doing it yourself with a new and redesigned armature.

I bought mine in Feb. 2015, and it's still going as strong as on Day 1. The last time I checked the bushes, they were good.

I am having a similar problem with my KS 120EB. Smelled burning, saw slowed down and now stops when I try to cut. It starts fine but immediately slows down and had no torque. And I can rotate the blade by hand no matter what position the saw head is in. I haven't taken it apart yet; got to many orders to fill and my TS55EQ is doing the job for now. Any ideas before I disassemble?

UPDATE: Is there anyway to get any help from Festool other than packing the saw up and sending it in for repair? Customer service tells me that they cannot give me any repair advice nor can they give me a part number for the armature. The exploded parts diagram does not show a reference number for the armature nor does it list a part number in the list. Even brushes are not listed (my saw is a 2015 model). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hope this helps
Hi. Is there a trick to finding the armature part number? When I go to the exploded parts diagram for my 2015 saw there is no listing for any of the motor related parts - armature, brushes, etc.

Contact Festool directly to get all your questions answered quickly. Whether it’s advice, support or repairs you’re looking for – we’re always happy to hear from you. 888-337-8600
I did that a few minutes ago. The rep told me that they (Festool) will not help me figure out what is wrong, won't tell me what parts I might need, won't even tell me if they can see the same issue with the parts diagram as I see. Said it's "a liability issue". He said over and over - just send it in for diagnosis and repair. To say that I am unhappy with customer service is an understatement. I love my Festool tool but if this is representative of customer service I may have to rethink my future tool choices.

Or check in the Links & Resources menu above for the part number Mr Lee Munch.
Thanks. I did go to the parts section on the site. Part numbers for motor parts don't show up on the diagram or the list. My T-Nr is 495 822

All the armature assemblies (end shield) for the Kapex EB saws are the same 203552. Only the Kapex REB saw requires a different part number.

These things must be in high demand. When I go to order, it tells me available in 12 weeks and 6 days!
