Kapex and tall base

We install everything from 3-1/4" to 5-1/4" tall base. The taller is on taller wall, upper end homes.

Well I finally did it! Our next two trim jobs aren't tall base so time will tell on that scenario but I can't wait to put this thought the paces. Working on modifying one of our miter saw stands to better accommodate our new toy...I mean tool!

I think it must be an American way to cut base stood up. I always cut on the flat. Internal corners just measure your length to the short point and add on 2/3mm then cut either left or right hand. Then for the external corners add 100mm on the length, take to position and mark the short points then cut your 45 for both. I don't know about America but tapers have a wonderful habit of building there corners out to much throwing the 90 degree corner out. Sometimes I will set the beval slightly less or more than the 45. Then if not quiet right a couple of strokes with a nice sharp block plane soon sorts it

It sure is shinny. Congratulations, after many years of use mine has a few scratches and dings. Even a fall to the pavement as I was loading into the van. I think my heart might have stopped for a second there but it was all fine just some dings. If you do a lot of shoe mold consider the 90 tooth blade a lot safer I think because I doesn't shot the little pieces like a rocket so much.

You made the right choice.  Remember, over analysis leads to paralysis.

I think you will be very pleased with the Kapex for cutting on the flat.  The ease of changing the bevel and seeing the readout is a key feature to me.  I completed a job this summer with 6" tall pine for paneling.  Cut it all flat and had mitered columns up to two stories high.  Would buy again just for this feature alone.

Well we completed our first trim job. It was 3-1/4" base so I could cut it vertical but I like cutting on the flat with the Kapex because the bevel is so easy adjust. The saw is a little different than the Dewalts I am use to using...but in a good way. I think the thing I thought was a little cheesy but really like after using it is the miter finder!

Yeah the mitre finder thing is great. I love it too. The clamp is awesome as well, best and easiest clamp on a mitre saw I've tried. Make a zero clearance fence, stops the little off cuts from wizzing off. See the excellent supplementary manual, I'm sure that its on this board somewhere, well worth a read and great pictures and detailed info in it.

So when you cope a tall base that is say, a bead profile. How do you re-cut the flat part of the cope straight if you can't stand it in the saw...... I guess you can try laying it flat but that doesn't seem optimal.
