Kapex blade guard is not going down!

Just bought the kapex 2 weeks ago and I noticed a problem today. The guard is not fully covering the blade which allows the head to go down with out pressing the switch. I have to manually push the guard all the way down for the head to lock. Has this been a issue in the past? Does anyone have any quick fixes?

Thanks for the help! :)

Quick fix is call the Festool service number listed on the label of the Kapex.  They'll take care of you.  This is a safety issue so better to let them handle it.

Yes, I did that today and they told me to return it to the store. I called the store and they will order me a new one but will take two weeks to get in. I have to use it every day so I was just wondering if there was something I could do to get by.

Thanks

I don't know that the moderators would take too kindly to passing along info for an unsafe condition.  I guess if someone wanted to, they could send you a private message as long as you promise not to sue them if you got hurt.  [wink]

Hi,

I suggest that the best work around while the Kapex is getting replaced or fixed would be to use another saw. Do you still have the Makita you mentioned in another thread?

Seth

PM sent. My recommendation was to simply exchange it for another Kapex if you've bought locally. Otherwise, get in touch with the service department or send me your contact details and I'll have someone call you at your convenience to help troubleshoot the problem.

My apologies for the problem. We'll get it all squared away quickly for you.

I know this is an older thread but this same issue just came up for us.  [sad]

As I understand it from my son, he was using the Kapex last week and the blade guard did not drop back down after cutting a piece of material.  He said luckily the blade had stopped moving so the only injury was a nick of his finger, otherwise. :(  We both thought it was just a build up of dust and the plan was to blow it out and, perhaps pull the guard and clean that too.

Does this sound reasonable?

We have had this saw for less than I year I believe...

Please take a minute and call Festool.  They can assist you.  Glad to see that things didn't end up worse!

Already sent my son the link, to this thread, and the telephone number for Festool.  He should get the email any time now.  I mean, he's usually up at the crack of noon on most days... [mad]
