Kapex Blade

I had noticed my Kapex was cutting slower and was harder to push through hard wood. The blade was the original and had been used to cut exotics, oak, Ipe, and assorted other woods. I cleaned the blade even though it didn't have any appreciable buildup around the teeth. Cutting was very slightly better.

I always have a new or recently sharpened blade to keep in rotation for the Kapex and the SawStop.

I put on a completely new blade on the Kapex. The cutting was amazingly better! I just had not realized how dull the old blade had become. May have been my imagination, but I think the new blade produced less dust.

So, off to Forrest went the old blade. When I get it back, I'll start a regular rotation schedule.

Was the dull blade a Forrest blade?  Or a Festool blade?  My reason for asking is that if it was a Festool blade they may not sharpen it based on previous reports here.

If it is a Festool blade and they do sharpen it please let us know.

I contacted Forrest about 18-24 months ago and they said they could not sharpen the Kapex blade because they don't have the proper equipment.

I'd also be interested in Forrest's reply. Their sharpening service is a pleasure to deal with.

I picked up this observation years ago here at FOG. I don’t recall who posted it.  I found the same thing to be true.

I contacted Forrest about them sharpening Kapex blades.

Their response was "Yes we do sharpen Festool blades".

I had actually heard the same rumor about them no longer Festool blades some time back.  Good to see it was just a rumor.

For clarity, it wasn't a rumor at that time.  User(s) had their blades returned unsharpened with a note that they couldn't be sharpened due to the variable tooth placement.

Glad to see that Forrest will sharpen now!

I actually talked with Tony about 2 issues. Thinking about it, maybe it was 3-4 years ago.

1. Will Forrest sharpen a Kapex blade?

2. Could a NEW in the package, Chopmaster Signature blade be rebored to fit the Kapex?

I was told NO on both accounts. [sad]

Happy to hear the first item has been rectified.  [smile]  Dealing with Forrest blade sharpening is so easy.

We will know if they sharpen Kapex blades when I get mine back. I was just going by their response to my query.
