Cutting what must have been some hellishly durable vinyl plank flooring last night and the damn thing started smoking and bogging and smelled all burned up. Anyone have any idea what a repair is going to cost me? Fortunately I have access to an enterprise FedEx account so I can ship it in for next to nothing. I'm hoping the money in this saw is in the fence and rails and not the motor so replacement isn't too hateful.

Searching around FOG it looks like this post will come as a surprise to exactly no one. Is Festool doing anything about it?  Saw is out of warranty by a few years.

Oh, and I was literally one riser and one tread away from finishing a 2,000 sq ft residential flooring job ahhhhhhhhhhhhh  [doh]

Reports of failures on the newest revision / model of Kapexes have been rare here.  Can any tool fail over time?  Absolutely.  Poster should contact Festool directly with questions regarding (as written) "...Is Festool doing anything about it?  Saw is out of warranty by a few years."

Maybe I've missed it, but I don't recall seeing in the Forum any complaint about an REB motor smoking.

Mine is an EB. After being told by a local merchant that it has dealt with a malfunctioning Kapex EB with a dust cake found inside the saw head, I now also vacuum the dust from the saw head after each session.
