Kapex casting not flat

I have just received a brand new kapex after years of waiting only to find that the casting is not flat from one side to the other by about 3mm in the middle and the fence at the back is also not true with about a 1 - 2 mm gap in the middle. has any one else experienced this? I have to say it has disappointed me. Can any one give me some advice ( it is difficult to take to a dealer as I got it mail order)

Further to the above comments I would like to add the following. My original post regarding the Kapex was almost immediately spotted by Festool Uk and I was contacted by them with various offers to help to resolve the situation. In the end a replacement saw was sent to me so I could use it for a month and if not happy I could return it and have my money back. Well I have to say that upon arrival and in use since I found no manufacturing defects at all, in fact it is spot on. my initial disappointment with the Kapex has now been over come and my confidence with the brand has been restored. I will be keeping the saw! The after sales that Festool offer is second to none and I could not have been happier with the way things have turned out, it is just unfortunate that the manufacturing defect was not picked up on before it left the factory.

Could you post pictures.  There was a thread recently, about castings, and having pictures will help to determine if it a cosmetic issue or more.  Just don't want this thread getting derailed so you can get fixed.  The other options are to call service or return the saw if in the 30 day window.

Hi Phil

As the supplying dealer I've been talking to John this morning to help. I'll PM you also, a swap-out seems best?

Best regards

Thanks Phil.

John, hopefully your issue will be solved very soon and you can have a happy Kapex experience. If not, let us both know.

Best regards

It is reassuring that Festool attacks product quality issues with the attitude of making the customer happy.

I am surprised that their in-process QA and their pre-ship QA doesn't catch these manufacturing problems before the products are shipped.

My experience in manufacturing showed that if it cost a dollar to fix a problem on the manufacturing line, it would cost $10 to fix the same problem at the end of the line. And, it would cost $100 to fix the problem when the product was in the customer's hands. This rule was directional and not exact, but it drove us to optimize in-process QA at every step of the manufacturing line.
