Kapex challenger

very valid points i had a xrp 18 volt drill and it burnt out the batterys and i said i would not by another dewalt anything but when i went to replace my tools their wasent any other brand i like apart from festool but most of there stuff is made for wood workers and im a joiner(carpenter) but i did choose the ts 55 over the dewalt but i did see the makita rail saw yesterday at a tool fair and looks good and for half the price.

back to the point kapex is better probably twice as good for a wood worker and for a wood worker worth every last peny but for me even if it was the same price i would choose the shadow if you get a chance to use one its a dream to work with and the stand is brill.

i went to buy the kapex and wasent that impressed and the guys in the shop said they get alot of complaint about them and wouldent use a makita if you paid me. but was impressed with that rail saw though for 260 british pounds :o

I finally registered on here just so I could reply to your query. The 7 1/4" makita is fantastic. I have only been using it for 6 months or so, but I love it. It's incredibly light, got plenty of power for a small saw, is quiet, and the dust collection is actually pretty good even without a vac because the dust port is so much closer to where the dust is actually being made. The dust collection on my 12" makita is about the biggest (but not funniest) joke around.

I just finished a set of maple stairs using just the little makita to cut everything: 1" x 10" skirts, risers, 5/4" x 11 1/4" treads, some custom milled handrails etc. I also had my first uh-oh with it as I finished a cut and let the handle go and it toppled off the back of the sawhorses onto the concrete. Fortunately it seemed to keep everything accurate. I couldn't find any problems with it.

I still want the kapex like nobody's business, but I decided to pick this saw up while I was waiting to see if there were going to be any more bugs with the Kapex, and whether I could justify the money for it (I haven't even blinked when spending the money for any of the other festool stuff: ct22, ro125 feq, ro 150 feq, domino, and ts55)
I am now content to wait a while before I look at the Kapex again. Now I just need to decide about the T+3.

that makita looks good but i have not bought a makita since i got alone of a makita drill and bored 1 hole for a lock and burnt it out probably bad luck but i do like the look of the stuff though , i have the dewalt with the new shadow ideal for me but has its down sides you have to press a separate button to use it and my extractor does not turn of unless i turn it off and its supposedly battery powered and not replaceable the guy said but would take ten years before you need to don't no if its true
and the dust extraction isn't that good OK but nothing compared to kapex.

the stand is very good i went to buy the kapex and would have but the shop i went to was having a big sale and i hagled the guy down alot and got it for 500 uk pounds
 
hi kev, i know what you mean about the makita drills, i have burnt out 2 this week, i will never buy makita cordless tools again.
having said that, their planers are fantastic and i stand by my earlier statement about the makita LS1013 SCMS. i would not bring any other SCMS onsite!

If this new Makita had stationary front rails I would strongly consider grabbing one. That's one feature I really appreciate on the Kapex. My LS1013L needs 29 inches of work surface depth if I'm up against a wall and I've come to find this inconvenient more often than I ever thought I would. Unfortunately, while it's a great saw, I just can't justify dropping CDN$1800+tax for a Kapex.

 
hi guys did a small job with the dewalt saw ,bloody hell its heavy through ma back out a we bit the stand worked a treat doing skirtings in a 4x4 room just slid the saw letft or right for 3 meter lengths.

on the makit subject i have a old non-cordless collated screw gun for 5 years and still works fine u have to replace the front part of the gun now and again if in heavy use but the motor goes strong.

the kapex excells in dust collection and that brill rail system to some people they are priceless but for mei cant justify double the price because i didint need my 12 inch dewalt but i wanted someting with variable speed and a lazer :)
 
thanks for the link mastercabman, i have never seen that makita dropsaw in australia.
looks pretty good on the video, hopefully we get it here soon.
i wonder what the dust collection is like using the supplied bag?
anybody here own one?
