Kapex Cost

Strange lad

But you don't understand, I wish I had a Kapex but at almost double the cost of the makita or half the cost of my car I just can't justify it. I don't know if it is any cheaper in the states but I can't understand how most of the members of this forum own one at that cost.

Although I won't deny that I am a little weird, sorry guys :)

The cost of tools is relative, relative to how many days or weeks one has to work to pay for them ;D
Directly adjusting from one currency to another does not take into account the differing scales of pay around the world or the line of work the purchaser is in.

For example: A lawyer who buys tools for hobby purposes will probably have more money to spend than a carpenter who buys them for work in the same city.
I have to work for a week to buy a T15+3 with the chucks in the UK ( based on the current local average wage for a carpenter) but it would have taken 3 weeks when I was working in Greece.

Another way to look at tooling costs is to reflect on how much they cost per day of work over their lifespan.
My previous cordless drill lasted 3 years and cost GBP 125.00 and had one chuck, had been repaired once by me when the forward/reverse switch's peg selector broke, so it cost me 18 pence a day for 690 workdays.
If the T15 only lasts the same length of time it will cost me 77 pence per day, not taking into account that I do not need to purchase a right angle drill to compliment it and have the other benefits that make life easier. I suspect that the T15 will last much longer than 3 years so the daily cost will decrease accordingly, eh! Festool? ;D

Rob, stuck at home with a ripped neck muscle so not earning [sad] nor wearing out tools [big grin].

Hi Rob that's exactly the way I look at tool purchases. initial cost, days worked to pay for it then how much time will it save me and will it make work easier.
tool life expectancy, and running cost of the tool.. for me the best time saving and production simplification, has to be the domino over the life of the tool the advantages are almost unquantifiable.

the neck thing sounds nasty [sad]

Neck thing is what the quacks term as "discomfort"  [eek] ;D You just have to get on with it.
I am supposed to be replacing and repairing 4 staircases in a circa 1750's house, heard this morning that the clients have again changed minds and now want to change treads to pine not MDF as planned. So it looks like a Domino will be on order sooner than planned! ;D Any excuse eh!

Keeping a stiff upper neck lip, Rob.

My brain doesnt work like that lol.  If a new tool comes out and its like a gadget makes job easier quicker and no one has one I buy it lol. I bought a level because it can extend from 8' to 14' long  never used it lol waist of money 260 pounds for a level stupid!!!!!!!

Jmb it would have to be self leveling for me to spend that much [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

Rob stiff upper neck [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

I just cannot come up with R15 000 any time soon so it's going to have to stay on my wish list. Any chance of Festool sponsoring me? I'll put huge "Festool" stickers on my car or write "Festool" huge on the house roof so when google earth's satellite comes over it can be a great advertisment... and yes you can see my roof on google earth.

The problem with that is the photo has aready been taken so if you put a sign on your roof  no one would see it  [big grin]

How do you justify the Festools you do have?

I can get a 1000 Watt plunge router for half the price of the OF1010.

I can get a Makita circular saw for 1/3 the price of the TS55.

Why the trouble with paying double the Mak LS saw versus the Kapex?

Festool uses people like us  on this forum for free advertising they have a massive market unlike makita and Dewalt  Festool owners are different type of people dare I say it more geeky they are more into what they do. So they like showing people festool with enjoyment knowing that the people or person they are showing havent seen it befor and so trying to convince them its a better tool than what they own or have seen on the shop shelves! The amount of video and pictures loaded up by festool tool owners is LOADS why?!?! its because its the type of people who by festool.

So aslong as festool keep up the service quality and new ideas for tools  we as people will advertise the tools for free they just need to keep us happy and we return the favour.

Yeah, I can see where you are going with this. It's just recently the makita scms has been cutting about 1 degree off and it is annoying the hell out of me not to mention the fact that it's lazer is pretty useless (This is due to me however, not having time to set it properly) and dust extraction is almost non existent. My dad has this 'rule' type thing that goes "You need 2 sets of tools; one for rough, quick inaccurate work and one for accurate special work." and Festool always falls under the latter. I guess considering we payed R9000 for the Domino R15 000 is understandable. I don't know I'm just moaning because I want one I guess. Ignore this post. Sorry.

We may be "geeky" but to this day I have yet to find another brand of tool that can match the consistency, reliablility, accuracy and innovation of Festool. The sad truth is even if we hated them and they didn't keep us happy we don't have an alternative, not over here anyway :/

Here in the UK  we are prime example why you should have restrictive import laws   we lost most or businesses in the UK and we are just becoming a importing country we hardly export and it isn't sustainable as we are making no money in selling are products so we are just becoming poorer. All are companies are leaving UK because of what Labour has done  and we import from all these 3rd world countrys because of cheap labour and because we cant do anything are selfs any more.  IF we where more tight on importing people have not got a choice but to buy  UK products in the UK instead of trying to import at lower cost and we would have to have are own company's to produce what we need and if we produce to much we can then sell it of export it and make money and then we would get out of debt and become like Germany. Germany are a good example how to run a country. FESTOOL just quality they make sure they make quality stuff even if it inst cheap it still sells.  Here in the UK is all about cheap labour from abroad and  products  food  everything     England is ********************************

Any way now I have calmed! Now Torys and Lib dems are in hopefully we be out of debt as soon as possible  and soon as they have got us out of debt all the stupid English people will vote labour back in to spend spend spend again ill never understand it but hey.  Years ago Torys Maggie Thatcher got us out of Debt again cuased by Labour and then Labour came in again and we are back in Debt. People Tell me y? y do you vote Labour is is because you people think the word Labour stands for working class?? cus ill never get it.

Labours Policies the more you work the harder you work the more TAX you pay don't work at all and you are given tax ( benefits)  where was the incentive to work?? Your better of not working??!!? Cant blame people taking the easy option

Hmmm, this certainly sounds familiar...  You could almost cut 'UK' and paste 'US' -- only it doesn't look as there is any chance that our country will ever get out of debt again -- ever.  Well, not unless we see hyper inflation and it takes a few trillion dollars to purchase a loaf of bread.  Oh, wait, that's the path we're on -- my wife just got back from the grocery store.  See, those politicians just may have it all figured out.  Not.  This would be funny if the joke wasn't on us.

The problem with the UK is most people do not realize  when they are well off.if you think germany is so good go and live there. Nothing stopping you,.... you may not like the fact that vat is 19% and income tax is around 50% and there are so many  laws and rules for everything your head will spin

that's why we have a million poles here in the UK

the UK is now a service industry like most first world country's.
we cant produce goods at a price people can afford,
If you did build a factory production line it would be staffed by eastern Europeans because they would put up with the conditions.
the price of festools is a good example of something produced in a first world country and most people cannot afford them or will not pay what festool want  for them.

and its makes no difference who runs the country they are all the same greedy self obsessed and looking out for no,1

oh and as a nod the the catagory this post is in heres a smiley [smile]

I worked on a large exhibition in Amsterdam for a number of years and it does seem to be a nice place, they do export a lot of plants to the uk.and I think they have a good shipbuilding. but only one type of cheese [big grin]
