kapex cutting capacity

hi all

ive been fitting a kitchen with large feature columns that are 100mm x 100mm and are mitred around tall units would the kapex be up to this task cutting a 100 x 100 mm block on a 45 degree angle ?

The maximum size you can cut on a Kapex is 88mm (at least for big lumps of timber!).

At the end of the day it's a 10" bladed saw. I don't think anyone makes a 10" saw that will cut 100mm square, mitred or otherwise. The Kapex is good, but's not that good!

That would be about 141mm bevel -- you'll need a 12" miter saw.

but what is the max of the ks88 and my toher question is what is the special cutting depth stated on the festool uk site

The special cutting detph locks the chop saw you can not slide it back and forth this is because to stop you cutting into its own base as the special cutting depth allows the chop saw to drop down more.  So for things like skirting stand up or for coving it lets you use more of the blade higher up behind the centre point.  You know when you plunge a chop saw it just goes bellow the base about 5-10mm or so well your saw goes down even more first time you do it you think your going to go down to much and cut into the bench your kapex is standing on lol.    Wa you gotta watch out for is over time you know how you get bits of wood stuck bellow between the gap where your blade goes well when you use the special feature it goes down deeper and catches all the little pieces and flicks them out every where one hit me on my forehead! lol  Its a good way to clean it out though lol!

I think the main difference is that the Ks88 does not have the special feature like the 120 has.
