Anyone have their Kapex mounted on a Dewalt, Bosch, Hitachi or ?? miter stand? How about any of the gravity rise stands? The Festool solution using a MFT800 just seems like overkill not to mention cost. I also don't have a permanent shop so having the ability to fold up and shut down my work area is what I'm looking for. Or, would it just be a bad idea to be moving the Kapex around all the time and throwing calibration off? Mahalo!

I think it will fit any of those stands, but you going to need to enlarge the mounting holes on the KAPEX.I know with the BOSCH gravity rise stand you need to.

At least until Sawhelper gets back online, I am using the Ryobi stand and home-made wings for my Kapex.  It works pretty well for a $99 stand.  I looked at the DeWalt and a couple of others, and for the money the Ryobi was the obvious choice.

I am a huge fan of the gravity rise stands, as long as you don't have to maneuver tight spots.  I like to setup as close as possible to the work, and that is not always an option with the larger stands.  Not as big a problem with the Kapex, but try to wrestle one with a 12" slider through a 24" doorway or up a narrow stairway.

Others may have a different experience, but I haven't really had a problem with the Kapex losing adjustment from moving.  The lasers need to be aligned occasionally, but nothing out of the ordinary.  Compared to my Makita, the Kapex requires about 40-50% the maintenance to keep it true.

Mark:

I use a DeWalt stand with my Kapex (and my 4 other miter saws).  I mounted a piece of 3/4" plywood to the yellow brackets (intended to be mounted directly to the base of the saw).  This gives me a flat surface to set any of the saws on without having to swap out the brackets every time.  As far as attaching/clamping the saw to the plywood, with the Kapex I use two 5/16" (I think) bolts down through the top of the base with plastic "star" knobs below the plywood.  All in all, I think the whole setup is pretty versatile.  I have a lot of money wrapped up in all my Festool equipment, but the Kapex stand and extentions don't seem like a good investment IMHO.  At least not for my personal application.  Good Luck.

By the way, I move my Kapex every day - usually about 50 miles each direction in my truck.  I've never had much problem with any of the settings getting messed up.  Three reasons I bought the Kapex:  it's light, durable, and maintains accuracy.

I am with mwhafner on this one. I use the Ryobi one all the time and I have 3 different saws that I attach to it. I just finished a job on the third floor of this huge Victorian and I am glad I had the light in weight Ryobi stand and the lighter Kapex. I don't see where you can go wrong with this stand. Plus it is easy to fold up and store in a tight place.

hi mark, i think it is a bad idea to bring the kapex onsite everyday, the calibration will fail eventually.
i use a makita LS1013 for onsite work. it usually loses calibration after 2-3 years, bits and pieces start falling off after the 4-5 year period.
i would love to bring the kapex onsite everyday, if i could figure out a safe way to do it, i would. the trailers suspension just is'nt soft enough for my kapex.

regards, justin.

I have been using a Rigid stand (but not with a Kapex) for about 2 years now and have zero complaints.  HD puts these on sale every now and then and you can get a good deal.  My use is for storage in my shop when I'm not using the tool... I am not transporting the saw around to job sites (but the wheels are huge which _should_ make it easy).
