Kapex Dust Oops

There have been a lot of posts on the issue of Kapex dust collection.

I just made a cut through 1" of Spanish Cedar. Huge volumes of dust spewed everywhere.

The hose had slipped off the Kapex!

After a few minutes of cleaning up the mess, I made a second cut. This time I had the hose firmly attached. Almost no dust.

I'm a believer.

My feeling is anyone who thinks the Kapex with DC is poor, just make one cut without DC and that shows how good the DC really is.

That pretty much applies to any tool, portable or stationary, Festool or not, with or without dust collection.  Some are better than others in how much dust is captured.

I've alway said that too. No one is saying it get all the dust. It does get most. I can use the kapex all day and not wear sawdust home.

One of the best ways to demonstrate the value of Festool's dust management is to use a tool with the dust extractor involved and then remove it. The difference is so stark that everyone instantly gets it.

I don't like to do that demo' in my own shop but I've done it in many other shops...

I disagree.  Today I made 2 cuts without DC hooked up, a 4x4 and a 2x4.  Sure, there was plenty of dust, but I realized that even without the suction of the DC, most of it was channeled through the DC port.

My Dewalt spreads sawdust, with half or less of the dust coming out the port.  Which is why it also doesn't perform as well even with the DC attached to it.
