I’m trying to see how these would fit in my shop. Especially interested in the dims I can’t seem to find anywhere, like from the v groove mount point to the mounting holes when the leg is folded for table top use, etc.

I have the Kapex extensions from FastCap and love them. Fully adjustable and available in custom lengths.

Thank you. But that’s not what I’m looking for. Over $400 without the stands and doesn’t work in table top mode without modification. The festool legs fold and allow the extensions to be used on a table top easily. That’s the route I’m going.

I’ve searched the forum and can’t find details specs anywhere. If anyone has them, please share! Thanks!

38 3/4” from the V to the mounting holes. That’s at a slight angle, about 1/8” less if you measure horizontally. Do you want any other dimensions?

Thank you! First I’ve seen that anywhere.

So unfortunately if you have two 48” workbenches, you can’t span both extensions with the kapex in the middle on the tables. Perhaps I’ll build a small table for the kapex between them and put the CT under there.

I got the same 38 3/4".  Lets call it 39" just to have a little margin.

You can actually make it work on the two 48" benches. As long as you don't mind having the extension overhang about 10" beyond the end of the bench. Total length with Kapex in the center is 116 1/2".

Kapex is 11" from the center to where it abuts the extension at the V groove. 48" - 11" is 37". You only need to 2". And the extension leg mounts are attached to T track on the bottom side of the extension. It is easy to just loosen , slide them from 39" to 37" and retighten.

There is 2" - 3" of room for the folded leg to be moved before it runs into the Kapex base. It should just fit. If you don't care about the legs they can be removed and then you could slide the legs mounts to any distance you want them.

Another option would to add a 2" piece to the end of your benches.

I had no idea they were on t-tracks! I find it puzzling festool leaves so much info out of the manuals. I really feel like all that should be in there including detailed dims. It can only aid to sell more and cut down on calls to customer service.

Now that I know they can slide or be removed/replaced easily it’s a much simpler prospect.

Thanks again!

I take it that you want to use the extensions on the bench but also plan to go portable frequently? In that case I would say removing the legs is easy but  may become a nuisance if you are doing it often.

Thank you thank you thank you!

I'm sure these photos will be helpful to many people considering the extension wings.

I wouldn't say I plan on taking them frequently, but sometimes it would be helpful.

Ok so here I'll confess my sins.

I have the Kreg Trax system setup with my old miter saw. I built a station for it that holds it lower than the table level, and I was off a tiny bit so I shimmed it with washers. I never applied the tape measure because I just never bothered myself to take the time and do it right. I like perfection and so I would want that tape to be bang on always.

I've been planning on a Kapex for a while now, so now that it's ordered, the debate is do I get the wings which seem to require virtually no calibration, or do I take the time to mount the saw on this station, properly height adjusted, then apply the tape measure...or do I just get the attachments and eliminate the lowered drawer, the permanence, etc etc.

My shop is my garage. I can see the merits of both. But the ability to - when I need something more than the space of my MFT3 - simply remove the legs and have two extra bench tops would be very handy.

Maybe I just don't trust myself to get the tape bang on! I think it's time for an incra 18" marking tool.

Per Sedge, "They're pretty doggone accurate", but they should still be calibrated:

I had watched that several times [scared]

I meant more of a frequent calibration. Do you find that you need to calibrate it often when removing and reattaching? Any recommended best practices here based on experience owning and using them?

I'll let some of the frequent mobile users comment on it, but in theory once it's set, it's set, unless you drop something or get too aggressive or loosen the adjustment bolts.

If you take the time to make a gauge block for calibration just keep it handy, then you can "trust but verify".

They have a bench top version.

It’s very possible I didn’t give them a fair shake.

In my defense, their site isn’t the easiest to navigate. I saw the kapex one then looking again now I see a generic bench top which I’m guessing is the one to which you’re referring.

I see now that the table top mounts are height adjustable so you don’t need to lower the saw, and it can also be removed easily. But how are they with maintaining calibration? Any videos you know that really highlight the system and show the details?

I see now there’s a little video button that shows some of their YouTube videos on the site.

The festool system comes with special brackets. The bench top seems to not, and getting close to the price of the kapex extensions without stand. Would love to know what you find you prefer over the festool that integrate and do the same thing.

Best upgrade I ever made. Rock solid. Attaches directly to the Kapex. Holds its settings perfectly. Custom lengths and adjustability are what really sold me. I can store stuff underneath the wings. Zero regrets.

But I don’t see any of that on their site for sale.

Maybe I’m just missing something. All it shows me is the track with stands for festool or the generic bench top. No custom sizing, no choice of bench top mode with festool brackets, no real options or anything.

See now that was the simple solution.

I’m not crazy. The Festool bench top kit was pulled from the site since they are out of the standard rail and only have the flat rail. The festool kit requires the standard rail. Not sure why they didn’t just list out of stock or unavailable. Total comes to about $425 with two adjustable mounts and two festool v groove mounts. Kapex wings are about $650 I recall. They don’t expect the standard fence in stock for a minimum of two more weeks.

This morning, I amazoned the kapex wings since they were in stock for two day delivery and I planned to gently try them out this Saturday and see if I like them. With 5% and 12 no 0% financing, it makes sense to at least experience them.
