Kapex Incident

I was cutting some really dense 4/4 hardwood with the Kapex. I saw the blade actually stop about halfway through the cut. I had wanted to switch to a resharpened blade anyway so went through the blade swap out process.

I found the arbor nut was very loose. I didn't thing this was possible as the rotation of the blade should be tightening the nut.

I swapped the blade and made very sure the nut was tight.

Did the blade look spinning wobbly?

It never looked wobbly. It just made a strange noise and stopped spinning.

The outside flange where the arbor nut goes through, has a special springwasher, I thought this was to prevent damage to the arbor in case the blade abruptly stops due to pinching/getting stuck.
Maybe this was such a case, check if it is still good. (It probably is, because you could tighten the other blade)

i don't think the blade ever got pinched.

By the way, why do tool makers put labels or marks (such as this arrow on the Kapex) that aren't self-explanatory?

I would have assumed the arrow indicated the direction of rotation of the blade.

To me, the arrow shows the direction of how to un-thread and remove the nut. The nut has reverse threads.

Your assumption, which is correct, confirms the non-self-explanatory nature of the arrow.

Worth noting, the Kapex as delivered into the NA market, uses a magnetic arbor washer that, IIRC, is associated with the braking mechanism in NA. Like the track saws, the arbor nut features a keyed mechanism and the threading, like all CMSs is a fine pitch left handed thread. If your arbor nut was loose, I'd be sort of concerned.....my experience is limited but both our old Kapex and our current model Kapex have never suffered from loose arbor nuts....I have personally owned two miter saws and have never had any issue with loosening arbor nuts, but universally CMSs use left handed threads....e.g. clockwise rotation loosens the nut and visa versa.

The keyed washer on my Kapex doesn’t appear to be magnetic. The bolt is definitely left handed.
