No idea what happened here but my left upper fence won't slide smoothly into the channel anymore. In fact it doesnt' move at all after at certain point. Looks like somehow it got misaligned and gouged the guide channel in the lower fence. Obviously this is somehow my fault since I am the only who uses the saw, but I honestly have NO idea how it happened. I tried to make it work by lightly sanding off the burred metal, but to no avail.

I guess my two questions are:

1)  can this be fixed without sending the saw in? From that I can see there are four bolts which hold the lower fence in place.

2) is this something covered under warranty?

3) If it's a removable part, how much is the part to fix it?

I would like to avoid sending it in if possible since I smack dab in the middle of something. But I gotta get  it fixed since it's causing real problems for me.

Take out the retaining screw and remove the fence.  See if there is dust or something in the slot.  Clean if required.  If you see metal filings, or if after you reassemble you have any issues contact Festool.  I don't know if it is recommended or not, but I sprayed mine with Boeing Shield when I first got my Kapex.

EDIT:  I reread your post - Give Festool USA Service a call on Monday.  The # is on your Kapex label.

Thanks Peter! I tried a small dab of plumber silicone in there helped ever so slightly. But not enough to make it move through the channel all the way. It stop like a third of the way once inserted. I am sad, my Kapex is wounded.  [sad]

I will give them a call in the AM.

Check to see if there is any twist along the length axis of the fence piece. Possibly the fence could have been distorted by a large workpiece placing a undue amount of torque on the fence thereby distorting the fit in the channel that it should be gliding smoothly in. Perhaps the fence module could be laid on a flat surface to confirm this. Sorry to here about the wounded warrior!

I think the problem is similar to what you laid out above. I don't notice a crook in the glide, but see burrs of metal in the channel. Its will never slide easily again.

I love my Kapex to pieces but I really wish this thing had the lift off fences like the Bosch.

There is a way to remove the fences, just screw down the allen stop screw and the fence will slide out completely.

Yes that part I know..But these slide to be removed, the Bosch saw lift out. Don't like the Bosch saw but like that function of it.

Had the same issue with the one I've borrowed. Had to replace both fences and the fence stanchion. For some reason they galled and there was no way to get them to seat or slide properly. The saw is still under warranty, Festool sent the parts for field repair.

Good to know it's something I can fix. So it's just those 4 visible bolts then?

Yes, all you need is the blade wrench. The yoke keys back in place. Takes about 10 minutes. You'll need to check saw for square and complainer.
