Kapex / MFT Table Questions

My next purchase will be the Kapex. I want to put it on the MFT table, but have a couple of questions. This will be in my shop only, not taking the saw to a jobsite.

If you have your 2013 bible catalogs handy - please turn to page 47. On the bottom right it shows the Kapex on what I assume is the MFT/3-MINI, the saw basically takes up the entire tabletop. However on page 45, it shows the Kapex on an MFT table, but there is some room in front of the saw where the user has a cutoff and the angle finder sitting there - is that the regular, large MFT/3 table?

I want to put the saw on the larger, and slightly higher, regular MFT/3. This is about the same working height I have my current Makita SCMS at, though the MFT/3-MINI is only about 4 inches lower, I thought the higher table would be good - also if I decide to replace the Makita on my workbench, then I would have another full size MFT/3!

So, aside from the 'which table is shown on page 45' question:

1) If I put the Kapex on the larger MFT, do the rubber feet of the saw fit into holes in the table, or do I need to cut new holes, or just bolt the saw to the tabletop?

2) I know this was discussed recently but I could not find the thread - I want to use the UG extensions as well, am I correct that the legs of the UG will not reach the floor if I have the Kapex on the full size MFT/3?

THANKS in advance---

The beauty of Festool engineering is that parts are interchangeable and the feet of the Kapex certainly fit within the hole grid pattern of all the MFT tables.  One thing to note if you use it on the big table is that the extension legs will not reach the floor if you were going to add them.  Maybe that is not an issue.  Also, I have some room on my Kapex MFT in front of or behind the saw, depending on how I mount it.  Obviously the MFT/3 will give you more room.

If the Kapex is on the MFT/3 Kapex, the table is 900 mm above the floor. That is the height of the MFT/3 and the CMS, which would allow them to be used as extensions.

The Kapex table is also at 900 mm when on the UG stand. The UG extensions are designed to be used at that height. Interestingly enough, the UG handle, when folded, is also at 900 mm above the floor.

Yes since the grid pattern of the hole are the same on the Kapex MFT and the reg MFT It should mount up.

But it would be set a little high for me ( Im short and portly) as you know.

But I bought the Kapex MFT to set my saw on because it is set at the correct height to use the reg MFT as a in-feed/out-feed table. I also bought 2 crown stops because I like the idea of extra support for cutting long mouldings etc.

It sets the kapex in-feed/ out-feed at 900mm to match up the height of the MFT and CMS. So my goal when I finally get my shop set up is to be able, set up a production line in my shop that I can rearrange for need and fold up and put away when not needed. Say for example, MFT- CMS- Kapex- MFT If I was make mouldings or rail/stiles..

Thats just a example of how you can get everything to flow together.

I know I keep beating a dead horse with this but I am moving and even if I wasnt, I tend to move my shop around rearrange it and take the tools to the work rather then the work to the tools.

Some guys have built their own CSMS stands that match up great with their MFTs.

They have posted them here and they are awesome.

Me I just bought mines.

So can someone tell me, what actual height in mm please is of the smaller Kapex mft table?
I have my kapex on a rigged up bench and would like to set it up to the final height so when I place the Kapex on it (I'lll drill holes for the Kapex's feet to fit into), I'll then have it's bed set to match the height of a full MFT table when I finally get one, and be able to use that as an extra infeed or outfeed support bench.

thanks

Don't forget that the KAPEX has locator feet that drop slightly into the holes of the MFT though, so if you put it on a flat bench at 790mm, it will be a little high.

The bed of the KAPEX is the same height as a SYS1 so that you can use them as material extensions when the KAPEX is directly on the floor, and a SYS1 is 112mm high, so if your bench that you are putting the KAPEX on is flat, it needs to be 788mm high to keep the bed at 900mm.

If you drill 20mm location holes in the bench, you should be fine at 790mm, but anything larger and they will probably drop in too far.

I was thinking the same thing then I remember how tall he is.

I met him in a end user class.

It would be just about right for him
