You actually can see this technique illustrated on Gary Katz's website.  For this who have never visited, there is a wealth of information there.  Here is the pictorial:  http://www.garymkatz.com/TrimTechniques/coping_chair_rail.htm

Peter

Yeah that's what he did but the mitred section was thinner than that.  Garys way is what I was on about rebating it so it sat flush but joiner who did it on the baseboards like I mentioned had it sitting ontop which is crap.    Using a jigsaw to cope is a little rough aint it lol  Garys joint from the pictures aint perfect good job it's painted  [tongue] [tongue]

Jmb

yeah it does look a little rough on his picture but i use a jigsaw to scribe and get the same result as with a coping saw.

Do you think jigsaw is quicker?  I don't it's just as quick as a coping saw I think just more likely to mess up and rougher.

I use my chop saw to cut the mitre then flip it the other way and cut the bottom straight section  and set the saw back straight to cut the top square then Cope the rest.    I believe skirting tops should be flush and doing that mitre unless your rebate like Gary to me seems rubbish having it ontop of the other.

got to disagree, you do have a speed control on your jigsaw you know

no i sit it in ie rebate it in, its the correct way to cope. unless its painted

Oh sorry i just read it again i miss read it dude! Sorry read it to quickly and thought  you said you sit it ontop I thought you had it so it was sticking up like this joiner did on our job.  That's okay then.  Sorry dude!

Well I wouldn't say proper way but it's another way to do it to create more work on a joint.  [tongue].

Um I used jigsaw and yes I can get just as good cope but I found i had to be more careful and did not find it any quicker!

I'll do a video cope and jigsaw time it and then check quality when I get back from new castle!  I have had to pay bloody 10pounds for the Internet in premier inn. Rip off!

what do you do when the skirting you are scribing to is not square? if you cut that section with the kapex.
i cut the 45 then get the angle of the otherboard with a sliding bevel then transfer the bevel to the scribe and cut with a tennonsaw/pull saw then cope the molding..

What I do is press quote  then copy the persons post then go to the other persons post and press quote and then paste the other quote into that quote BUT you have to move the name quote to the top
