Kapex: Need help with repair and advice on an observation

I just noticed yesterday that the hard black plastic dust extraction attachment (475318) is cut in half. I don't know when or how this happened. I have ordered a new part, but I am having difficulty figuring out where the spring is supposed to reside on the machine. I'm pretty sure I know it's registry on the part. If someone has ever replaced this part and can give me some advice, I would appreciate it.

Also, yesterday I noticed an oily residue at a few locations on the saw. I'm wondering where the oil came from. Any guesses?

Thanks

The "oily residue" is nothing to be worried about.

If you search the forum, you will find other discussions of this topic. It's caused by oil separating from the grease and is brought on usually by environmental conditions or by too much grease being applied at the factory.

Couple of photos below that might help.

Thanks Garry, I will get the replacement part soon and change it out.  Your photos helped. I'm glad the oily residue is of no concern.

Do you have any idea how I cut this part in half?  Is it possible that the part got bound up while cutting an extreme bevel?  Any other advice?

Thanks,
Chris

Difficult to guess at without seeing it, but it has been known for a small offcut to get "launched" into that part and break it/dislodge it, so perhaps that's happened and *then* you've cut into it if it's actually been "sawn"?

It has definitely been sawn. The cut does noes appear to be parallel to the blade, which suggests to me that one of the mounting pins came loose from its registered location, then it was cut into.

This morning with the help of super 33 electrical tape I was able to Band-Aid my dust shroud back together.  When I reinstalled the temporarily repaired shroud I observed the way the shroud functions and I think the cause of my problem occurred when I had an extreme left bevel on the saw and the side of the shroud contacted the material being cut thus dislodging it in allowing it to fall into the blade.  luckily I was able to find a replacement part locally.  I think the remedy for this issue is to drop the blade slightly into the material with the head of the saw in the rear word position and draw the saw forward  with the shroud in contact with the material being cut. Then when the head of the saw reaches the outermost point of the cut, plunge the blade through the material and push backward all the while making sure that the shroud is properly retracting.  Based on the connection point of the right side, I do not think this is a problem in an extreme right devil. Suffice to say I will have a replacement on hand at all times, as I think this is an issue that can happen again.

I have the same problem. I dismantled my saw a few weeks ago and had to wait 3 weeks for replacement bush that was keeping the arm from lowering because the blade guard was not ligting.

That's all fitted and looks like it will now lower smoothly again. However I cant work out where the other end of the show spring that controls the dust chute locates.

Any help would be very much appreciated... thanks in advance
