Hi all,

After thinking years, I dove into a Kapex. Just playing around few days and got some questions. I searched FOG and the internet, but couldn't get a straight answer. So, I would appreciate your help.

1) I want to add an auxiliary fence but, with a half inch board, it interfere with the clamping system. I got several topics discussing about it; a) don't use the clamp, b) attach an auxiliary fence BEHIND the Kapex fence, or c) use a thinner board. I'm wondering how you deal with this issue. One puzzling thing is this Youtube (), which uses a fence and a clamp together without the interference. Maybe he planed the fence to the thickness that can accommodate the clamp....

2) This is for those who are using the UG extensions. I found a thread discussing that level of the extension is higher than the Kapex base (http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-problems/kapex-ug-extensions-not-level/msg270348/#msg270348). As discussed in this thread, the right V-groove of my Kapex is higher than the left V-groove. This causes the right extension elevated proud of the Kapex base. The similar problem was reported for the extension wing. There were three other users reporting the same issue in this thread, but no solution was offered. This was more than a year ago. I wonder this is a consistent problem or something that affects a small number of users.

I used 12mm Baltic birch plywood for my aux fence. I used a round nose router bit to cut a vertical slot just deep enough to allow the end of the clamp to clear the fence and move up and down.

I was lucky enough to use 9mm Baltic birch for mine. It works fine- the clamp swing side to side is roughly -/+5 degrees.

Thanks Festup and Harvey,

I found the fence made the cut cleaner, but the dust collection suffered considerably. Also, there are some interference issues with the UG wings. So far, I have a mixed feeling about it. The zero clearance insert in the base plate is, on the other hand, great. I wonder I need to make the plates for each bevel angles, though.

As for the leveling issue of the Kapex base and the right UG wing, I found that the right v-groove of the Kapex is actually higher than the left, which causes the right UG wing elevated. This problem were reported multiple times in this forum. So I contacted Festool about the solution. I'll keep you updated.
