I'm looking to get opinions from somebody that has the Best Fence extensions on their Kapex UG cart.  I'm considering going with those rather than the Festool ones because of their width.  Anybody had a chance to compare the 2 systems?

Not sure this will help…but I'll post anyways….

I know you are worried about the width that the UG extension can handle.  Recently I had some 18mm (3/4")  thick Mahogany 12' long on my UG set and I had zero problems with the right or left UG extensions supporting the weight or width of the Mahogany that was 12" wide.

Have I compared the two systems….no.    But I've been using the Kapex UG set for some time now….only as a weekend worrier wannabe pro  [big grin] ……and have used it with no worries.

I'm actually surprised by how solid it is, because I was a little worried it would be a bit wobbly, going off the photo's and just one leg,  but I've found them to be solid.

I'm a big fan of Fastcap products…..but I'm a bigger fan of the Festool system.    [wink]

Price tag is a big fear factor…..but I believe I've read some place that the sticker shock will make you cry just once…..after you use the tool or accessory you quickly forget how much it cost.

I own both. Both are good. I don't like the way that either connects to the Kapex...the Fastcap, less.  Festool should incorporate the way that the Kapex hold-down clamps work and translate that concept to the connecting mechanism...Push wing up to the Kapex and flip the latch. Done! Simple, faster, better!  No bending down looking, twisting and turning.

That said, the Festool wings are faster to set up and I like the internal extender. They are calibrated very well. Very accurate! The Fastcap wings are more robust, have standard and metric tape with a clever magnifier.

You have to figure out how you will be using your Kapex and buy the system which works the best for your situation. If you're working in small rooms, then the Festool is better. If you're at a site for an extended amount of time, cutting a lot of heavy product, and have a bunch of knuckle-heads bumping into things, then I would go with the Fastcap. If someone fell into the Festool wings, they would bend them up or break them. If someone fell into the Fastcap wings, then I don't think that there would be much damage if any at all.

i sold my best fence. I never liked the stop locking mechanism and the little pins that hold the rails to the saw. I am lucky to have bought two sawhelper set ups and would buy more if I found them. On this note I have 2 old style best fence rails I am willing to sell cheap. They were 100 each new. I live on Long Island but am willing to ship. thx

Glass1,
do you still feel that the ug setup with the wings is better than the fastcap.  I just got a kapex and want to know if the ug setup is worth it.  My only concern is the width of the extensions.  They look like they wouldn't do well with wider material or even material that is a little heavy.
