Kapex, UG stand and oil leak.

Anyone else have this issue?  Contacted Lester at Festool
Service and was less than thrilled with his solution - store the Kapex with table flat, as if using the saw.

The UG stand takes up a lot of real estate and wasn't designed to be stored that way.

:-/

Trying to see if I'm the only one with this issue.

No oil leak on the one I use. Stored it, in place, hung down, on its handle.

What area is it leaking from?

Tom

It does say in the ug instructions that you shouldn't leave the stand stored upright for prolonged periods, maybe that's why. I can't see where the oil would come from though.

Leaking out of the gear box by the vents.

Just kinda disappointing - $2k+ saw/stand system and u cant store the saw the way it seems like it is best suited.

My other festools have been fabulous but the saws - a bit meh.  I'm sad now.

Could it be extra grease from manufacture?  That seems odd that you would not be able to store it on the stand.

It is grease that comes from the gears, when it gets warm and fluid, it can come out.
The beltsanders BS 105 and BS75 also have this problem sometimes.
It should have some sealent around the housing parts but it seems there can always leak something
out, much faster when ist on its side on the wall.

I had the same problem and I was concerned.  Called FESTOOL and they said that, when the saw is used a lot it heats up and liquifies the grease in the gearbox.  If then loaded in the van, upright, the liquified grease may come through the bearing.

I was still concerned.  There was a decent amount of "oil" in my van and on the saw.  Called festool again and they talked me through opening the gearbox to ensure there was enough grease... there was plenty.

If the Kapex is getting a lot of use and I'm packing up and traveling, I try to store it flat.  Sometimes packing is a little tight and it goes upright.  Any grease that comes through the fins gets wiped away a month or two later when I'm fiddling on a project at home.

Wishing you all a happy and prosperous new year.
