Kapex: uneven cutting surface fixed!

Shane, I don't know if I'm being over sensitive but I didn't put a dial indicator or any precision measuring tools on the saw.  I opened the box, and the deck is clearly higher than the wings.  If I had to give an eyeball measurement I would say a 1/16 of an inch.  Stock pushed from either side of the saw will catch on the deck.  I'm not mad about this as I know festool will sort it out but is this much variation supposed to just be part of the package?

I just set up my Kapex today and the turret and the rest of the bed align perfectly.  However if the UG wing kit is not in alignment then there is a problem that should be addressed and I'm not talking about a tenth of a millimeter but if the issue is a millimeter and a half that does affect the overall quality of the and in the instance of a furniture maker, it's making expensive scrap.  I am expecting my back ordered UG stand in a few weeks so I'll be able to see if this is a real issue for me or not but, as is the Kapex cuts dead on straight.

There's no published tolerances or specifications that I'm aware of. We fully support our range of products and if you are unsatisfied or having a problem, we are here to assist. That would include any issues with fit, finish, calibration, etc.

So far my new Kapex is "perfect" and I fully trust Festool.

The turret on mine was a heavy 1mm (little over .041") lower than the side tables.  Contrary to the Festool fanclub position, this DOES create accuracy issues when cutting things that 'balance' on that high edge.  There is a reason every other manufacturer machines the surface of their tables.  Sure, if I was cutting $3 2x4's all day long it wouldn't really matter much, but when making cuts to the 1/64" in $200 sticks of pre-finished crown moulding, it matters a lot.  "Floating" and "self leveling" are expensive sounding catch phrases to make you think you're paying for something you're not.  You're actually paying more for an item tha required fewer manufacturing steps than the competition.

Don't get me wrong though, I love the saw.  It took two trips back to them to make it right, but they did make it right.  That is something you won't find from the competition.  The saw might not be perfect, but nothing really ever is.  I just expect a certain level of quality, and the customer service at festool stood up and met my expectations.  Is it overpriced?  Hell yes, it certainly is, but there are tons of things in life that are overpriced (those expensive cars still do exactly the same thing as the cheap ones).  I happened to be in a place to afford one, so I did.  I don't regret spending the $$$, every time I take that saw out I'm glad I purchased it.

Ok, ok, ya got me.  It was my turn to overemphasize my point!  Lol

I don't cut to 64ths, but heavy or light 32nds.  And my point was that the high edge creates a pivot point.  Holding a short piece flat on the outside table doesn't guarantee it won't pitch toward the lower middle section under the pressure of the cut.  I think mine is now within about .005" (guesstimate) which is fine with me.  The 1 mm low that it was out of the box is excessive for a Ryobi, let alone festool.  But they corrected it, so ultimately I think the tool is worth it, even if most of the price is for the customer service.

Sprung crown to the 1/64" ?  Lot of talk here how crown is like the most challenging thing (carpenters) do. Really? But I admit if my turret was off by 1 mm or 1/25 of an inch I would have returned it.
