Kapex Work Station

Well, Kapex has been formally introduced to my shop. Kapex caused a major disruption to my shop setup. It caused me to redesign some things, move other things around and chop off the legs of my MFTs. In the end though, I think that I am happy with my new setup.

New Setup:

This is phase one of my Kapex work station. I have quite a few upgrades in mind for the work station. The Kapex MFTs will have a removeable bridge to the main MFT station in the last pic above.

Looks great.  I like the extension for the MFTs.  Do yourself a favor and get a bigger hose for the Kapex.  I notice a marked improvement in the dust collection when I switched.  I picked up a 2" hose from Lowes for about $20.  It's not green but it works great.

interesting use of 2 kapex tables.... why not just use extension wings like before with the kreg stops,  seems a waste of 2 tables that can, as it seems. only to be used for a stop and laydown table to cut on. where extensions wings would do the same thing.  interesting.

If the tables were only used as extensions, then it MIGHT be wasteful. But the two extensions are so much more than just extensions. The fences on either table slide inside the mft profiles and can be moved out of the way, or removed altogether giving me a decent sized assembly/work area.

The problem that I had with a miter saw fence or extension was that the fence effectively cut my work space in half. Now, I have full use of the space on either side of the Kapex.

Also, the mft on the left side of the kapex sits just opposite of my larger MFTs. Now, I can easily bridge the 800 and 1080 to create a space for thru-routing and using the jigsaw without being concerned with clearance underneath.

The tables on either side also provide infinite clamping capabilities whether I am clamping for a cut with the kapex, or some other general use.

Also, since the fence slides along the sides of the MFTs, I can conveniently have a few fences that can be swapped out for length. For example, I generally use 48 inch fences on either side of the saw. That's what I have there most often. But there are times when I need a longer fence. I can easily add the longer fence when I need it and put the 48 inch back for general use.

Thanks. I agree, the bigger hose makes a significant difference. I have the bigger Festool hose and will eventually move it to the Kapex. But for now, its a fight for that hose between my TS55 and the Kapex. The TS55 has more shop seniority and gets the bigger hose for now.

I'm trying to get around to starting my MFT and KAPEX workstations and have been reviewing my old notes. I've found quite a few images I'd saved at the time, so where I can, I'm trying to add them back in to the threads where the photos were previously lost.

Hope someone finds this useful and that it's OK with the original authors.
