Kapex?

I am in the market for a new miter saw.  I figured I would go with a 12" CMS since I don't have room for a slider, nor do I like slider's reputations for inaccuracies.  I was actually going to order a DW716 today when I read a reference to the kapex.

If I understand the picture properly, the rails don't stick out the back so it doesn't take up more table top than a non-slider.  Is that correct?  What is the footprint?

Of course it doesn't much matter if it won't be available in the US.  Is it coming?  When?  How much?

re: the rails, that is correct. Footprint is maybe a bit smaller than other saws, but it is really configured in a way that it's convenient to carry, which makes a lot of difference.

Don't know when you'll get it, could be next spring, could be later. General wishes are for it to be '08. There is a super long speculative thread on this subject. Bob Marino has a sign up list. Keep reading.

Toller,

I've heard April '08, but that may not be true.  I want one.  The quality, low weight, and dust collection alone are enough for me.

One rather significant issue is how well the US Dollar is doing against the Euro.  Unfortunately, it's tanking.  The problem for Festool is that the USD to Euro index has a direct affect on revenue and they may be forced to price it higher.  :'(

Regards,

Dan.

April is the "target" date, but I hope Festool is on target. No one is 100% certaiin. More clarification will be coming as the date approaches though.

Any idea as to the footprint or the price?  My table is only 29" deep, so normal slider won't fit.  And if it is $1,800, I won't be waiting for it. :D

When it's set to cut 90, the measurement from front foot to rear of the saw is about 24" (took me a while to find one of my old imperial tape measures). All the way front to back it's about 32". I wouldn't guess it would be quite that expensive, it's about $1750 here in OZ, so I bet it'll be around the $1400 mark where you are. Unless your dollar keeps dropping.

So If I put it on a 29" table it will stick out 3", but the feet will be well back.  That will work.
I guess I don't mind the price if it is as good as other Festools; but I am not sure what to do until I can get one.  The 7.25" Crapsman isn't much better than do it freehand.

Thanks

Yeah, and if you swivel it sideways when you aren't using it, you'll be home free.
