kapex motor kaput . a year and a half old and 2000 grand for a saw that should last years without any issues

You aren't alone as there are plenty of others that have experienced the same.  Sadly, there are numerous people reporting the motor going more than once.  Festool's stance is that there is no problem with the Kapex design.

they need to step up and step up big time. something is wrong and if that's how they feel then i just have to say i would not recommend this saw . the carpenter working on the site today with his 400.00 saw just chuckled at me. i would to

Don't drink green kool-aid just because it's green. Make the kool-aid vendor earn you're business on each and every tool. MARK

Are these 110V kapex falures ?

... and more importantly ... is the plural of kapex, kapex ? [huh]

Kev, there have been a few reported failures from other parts of the world, but the vast majority are the 110v saws from N. America.

Yes, I was thinking that ... and possible 110v job site versions in the UK for some of those non-NA failures too.

I do believe that we'll see a gradual change to higher tech motors across the Feestool range, but only as they update models. This could see them shoe horning some new wizardry into an updated kapex while remediating a potential issue with the motor [wink] [big grin]

110v. Have already sent in for repair. Took it back to lee valley and it was a full week before they sent it out because they did not have proper size box. I'm just concerned that problem continues when warranty is up

Festool NA seem to be very responsible when it comes to issues that continue after the warranty period from some of the cases I've read about here.

I'd be interested to know how much variation people experience in their 110v supply in NA ... and obviously whether that could be a contributing factor.

I question whether 15 amps is enough for saw and vac. hard to find 20 amp on jobsite

When kapex and vac are plugged into a 15 amp circuit does it pop the breaker? If not than the load is not greater than 15 amps. I certainly have popped 15 amp breakers when 1 person is on the table saw and I start up my non soft start scms, that created a greater than 15 amp draw. I would look at the kapex's fancy electronics for the problems. If the kapex cannot handle the USA's power grid yet all other scms can than its a design problem.

Kevin was careful to say NA, and the OP was in Canada.
I have looked the country code on the phone, and the phone says +1.

Canada and US regularly pass power back and forth.  We have the same voltage and hz.

Cheers,

Is this is a general problem and has Festool come out with the fix? (yes, I did see the 'no design flaw' comment)
Is it mechanical or electronic ?
Don't use mine 'everyday' 'cause it's not my only miter saw and most times it stays in the shop for duties there.
Mine's dated 3/10 and no problems so far.
Are the affected saws newer?

Just received my kapex back. They replaced the armature, gear set, housing which was damaged from flying piece of wood and the fence which i've never had a problem with. Took a little longer than expected but very happy with service personal going over whole saw

I have been extremely satisified with Festool Service it's just too bad that the Kapex design has suffered without any recall or upgrades.

Used my kapex today. They also did something with flip up for bevel works better than when bought new also no more scraping noise on miter table. Works  better than new
