I am having a strange problem with my kapex, I am hoping someone here can help me out.  The saw is about a year old.  I have spent several hours trying to get the mitre dialed in perfectly and thought I had won the battle until I realized that it is cutting bang on 45 when I mitre to the right.  When I turn the mitre to the left I am out about a full degree.  Has anyone ever had this problem with the saw being out on only 1 side?  The other issue I am having is the guard will not come back down 95% of the time.  the saw is used for trim work only and is vacuumed off everyday.  This is my second kapex in 5 years.  I am seriously starting to question the quality of these saws for the price you pay for them.

Cheers and Thanks

Sounds like the rear fence isn't fully flat, have you checked it with a straight edge?

I think Paul G has an excellent idea. One of my Kapex fences was bent. I think it got that way from a kickback. My cuts were off like yours. Festool sent me new fences for both sides. A Festool rep showed me how to adjust the fences at a road show. Not hard. I think the procedure is in the supplemental manual.

I know there are lots of threads about Kapex problems, but mine has been flawlesss for many years.my previous miter saw had to be moved outside due to the saw dust storm it created. The Kapex stays in the shop while in use.

I have the same problem with my Kapex trying to cut square: I can align the fence left-right within .001" but if I adjust the saw for square with the workpiece held against the left fence I get a fat 1/32" out of square in 7" on the right side of the fence.  [crying] The box from Festool service just came today, I'll be sending it in on Monday.

I'm on my second fence casting, the first one was abysmal and Festool sent me a new one under warranty. I should have sent the saw back then, the saw still doesn't cut reliably square after many hours of futzing around with Starrett straightedges, feeler gauges and lots of NSFW language.

But the blade guard hasn't given me a problem in the 6+ years I've owned the saw. That may be because I don't use it much since it doesn't cut square.  [mad]

I'd suggest you need to send it in for repair while it's still under warranty. And check it thoroughly when it comes back.
