Hope to see some of you at the Katz Roadshow event at Carter Lee on October 12 in Indianapolis.  This will be a Rough Carpentry event with Mike Sloggatt.  You can sign up for free at the link below on Gary's website.  For those of you who have not attended a Katz Roadshow event, you are missing a great opportunity to connect with other professionals in the area and learn some great techniques.

Gary will also be hosting additional Katz Roadshow events in the coming months at various locations in IN, WI and CA.  For a complete list, visit his website:

Also, we would like to see you at the Remodeling & Deck Show at the Indiana Convention Center here in Indianapolis on October 28-30.  Festool will be attending the show and have a booth (#1021).  If you would like to receive a free pass to the show, please visit this page to register online.  For more information about the show, see the following link:

Hope to see you there!

Just a reminder for anyone in the area, the FREE Katz Roadshow event is at Carter Lee (map) on Monday morning.  There will be a number of us from Festool USA attending.  Hope to see you there.  There have been several very positive reviews from other members who have attended past Katz Roadshow events.

Also, the most recent Katz Roadshow event was earlier this week and was a great success with over 200 attendees.  You can read more about that on Timmy C's blog post about the Katz Roadshow at Lincoln Hardwood and Tool.

I was at the roadshow in Lincoln and all I can say is it was fantastic.  I am not technically a carpenter but the scope of his knowledge and his style of presentation will be very beneficial to any and all trades.  Thanks again to Timmy C.

Several of us from Festool USA took the opportunity to attend since this Roadshow event was happening virtually in our back yard.  This was my first time visiting Carter Lee and let me just say that they have an incredible facility down in the heart of Indy.  There were probably just over 100 people in attendance.  I did have the opportunity to meet Les Spencer from the FOG and some other Festool users that were in attendance.  In addition to Festool, several other brands were represented including Andersen Windows, Tight Bond, and Stabilia to name a few.

This was a Rough Carpentry clinic and was lead by Mike Sloggatt, a member of the Katz Roadshow team.  He went over a number of techniques and offered information on a variety of topics.  Some of what was covered was proper window installation to prevent infiltration by the elements, the use of technology to work faster and smarter (the specific demo was making calculations for rafter lengths and installation), decking installation and how to cut a radius on a deck using the OF 1400, and how to improve profits by using techniques like adding elliptical design elements above doorways and windows.

Here are a couple of photos where Mike was showing an 1/8" aluminum flat bar with a routing template attached.  He used this configuration to attach the OF 1400 to a jig to create arcs for windows and doors and a similar set up for doing the radius cut on the decking.

It was a good event.  I suspect most of the members of the FOG would get more valuable information from the Finish Carpentry clinics that Gary does himself.  Hope to see more of you at the Remodeling Show and Decking Expo at the end of the month.  I know that I've heard from several of you that plan to attend that show.

Oh, and I got a couple of additional photos from Gary of the Roadshow event in Lincoln last week.  For those that have not attended, they have a large screen and projector so everyone in the crowd has a good view of what's going on.

Don't have a Katz Roadshow in your area?  Well, Gary's always looking to team up with local retail outfits.  It may be worth telling your local dealer about the event and direct them to Gary's website.  I believe he is in the process of putting together the 2010 calendar now.

I see that he has the same problems with his stickers on the systainers, they are peeling off =)  You can see it in the first picture.

Update 10/15/09:  I forgot to mention that if any of you are having the same problem with your stickers in the picture I am referring to, call Festool and they will send new ones at no cost.  Thats what they did for me.

Thanks for the information Shane.
I wanted to attend this show, but work got in the way.
I saw he is going to be at the Remodeling Show, so I will catch him there.
