KISS II System and the Domino

I recently started using the KISS II System for constructing cabinets.  I use the LR32 to drill my system holes and the KISS II system specifies the system holes begin 35mm from the cabinet top/bottom.  To achieve this spacing, I use the LR32 stops set at 16mm and use a 13mm thick spacer to achieve the correct position.  The beauty of this system is that the system holes are at the center of the 3mm reveals and this makes the positioning cabinet spreaders very easy.  A pdf file for the KISS II System can be obtained at the link:

Position the Domino locator pin in the 5mm system hole that you want to locate the spreader.  Note - I don't know how well this will work with the new flipper style locating pins.

Square the Domino base to the front edge of the panel

Clamp a piece of scrap to the panel being careful to not move the Domino from the square position.  It is a good idea to check the fence for square after clamping.

Reference the Domino from the front edge of the panel.

The Domino mortise is centered where the 32mm system hole was.  Note that the mortise is centered at the 37mm standard backset.

The spreader is centered at the reveal center for the KISS II system.

Steve - thanks for the tip.  I have been reading up on the KISSII system for some time and have made some fullsize templates in 1/2" Baltic birch on a CNC for hole drilling etc.  I haven't used them too extensively yet and just a few quick shop bases with them.  I had wondered every time I had read the PDF of where the stretcher was to be located - you fixed that for me - now I know that it IS located on the system hole.  Here come some 5 increment drawers and some 19 increment doors!

Thanks again - Rob

I second what Dan said, with an extra exclamation point!!!!

I like your setup, and thought of a simple way to improve accuracy and speed. Drill at least two corresponding 32mm holes into your plywood guide and glue in dowels or shelf hole pins.  Now your guide if setup correctly can act as a square and will not require a clamp.  If you make your guides as deep as your standard cabinets with a dowel at front and back you can use this jig for aligning your Domino for your tops and bottoms as well.

Just an idea, I'm trying to find ways to improve large cabinet construction and cut out the dado step.  I'm currently using dowels, but will be getting a Domino and LR32 setup soon.

The KISS II system seems like a good option for simplifying construction.  Is it possible to setup so your first set of system holes is used for cabinet construction?
