My daughter is having her third birthday so have built a kitchen dresser to compliment her sink and oven unit for her 2nd (http://festoolownersgroup.com/member-projects/latest-project-walnut-cherry-childs-cookersink/msg122268/#msg122268)
The unit is made from MDF and walnut. The MDF has been sprayed using a Fuji Q4 HVLP and Dulux (ICI) trade products (MDF primer and Diamond point eggshell). Both are waterbased as I don't have a proper paint booth, so lower VOC paint and easy cleaning were a must. Primer was thinned with water to 35 seconds in the visocity cup.. which is still pretty thick so had to use full power, with the additional overspray that creates but could lay down a nice thick coat which sanded well. The eggshell was at about 25 seconds so quite thin, juts built up with lots of light coats, but the time I had finished spraying the acbinet and drawers and doors could just start back round again.
In terms of the build, nothing exotic, just some floating splines and glue. The hinge hardware was Blum mini hinges, they are great in terms of adjustability, only issue I had was they are not meant for very tight clearances (e.g. really nead over 1.5mm) as they are designed for full size units, but the gap would look starnge on a scaled down unit, so had to do a small round over on the doors on the hinge side.
The bottom unit is quite heavy, so I have made it so you can take the top off using these great 32mm euro based fixings:
I just made a little jig out of MDF to position the holes and then used a festool 20mm fostner bit plus a normal 10mm bit to fix
Here is the unit patially primed
and finished
p.s. I now have plenty of timber, a kitchen maker nearby went belly up, so there was an auction, there were some real bargains (30 sheets of walnut and oak venerred 2.4m x 1.2m boards went for £160) shame I don't have the space.. I got hold of 0.7m3 (25ft3) of planned all round prime grade oak and maple for £350 mainly 6" x 3/4" 12ft lengths.. plux 12 Bessy Kantenfix clamps for £160 (http://www.besseytools.co.uk/bessey-clamps_kf4-edge-clamp-kantenfix-kf4_pi-1.html?osCsid=noeiqvaukbprc4p11g6epc1bq5)
