Lamello Invis Mx joining system

Novel idea.  Will be great for certain applications.  But my fear is that one cannot over tighten the screws.

I don't have one but have seen the Invis demo at a the IWF woodworking show about 7 years ago.  From what I recall, they used it to join a handrail via a butt-joint and it seemed to be a solid joint.  They did use some dowels to align the joint and probably add some torsional strength.  It seemed very good for a truly invisible knockdown joint that could be assembled and re-assembled many times and only by one who had the tool and the knowledge of the joinery method.  The cost of the tool seemed to be in line with what other specialty high end tools cost.  Fastener cost was very expensive.  I suppose if you had a specific application for this type of fastening system and could recover the investment in relatively short order,  it would be worth it - I just didn't have the need.

Not new to me.

Had a play with one few years ago.

Very solid!  I was very surprised how strong they hold!    BUT also very surprised to how much they cost!

Very Expensive!

You might think its good for invisible fixing methods for removable panels! But No!  Only some one with the magnetic device would be able to unscrew them but also knowing where they are would help!  You could spend a while moving the magnet device over a large surface trying to unscrew them.

So they are really for permanent fixing methods.

At the Demo they used 4 of those things in a 4''x4'' post into table top and it was strong. With glue I can see it being a strong joint.  I dont know how well it would hold over time with something like a table leg fixed directly below table top.

They have many types plastic ones  and through n through for shelves etc.

IF my workshop work goes well I might buy it!  I was about 1mm away from grabbing my wallet and buying it at the show few years ago. sooo close!
