Large amount of veneer - How best to sell

OK, I admit it.  I have been a buyer all my life and with the few exceptions of vehicles I haven't sold anything I have owned.  So I have a potential dilemma on the horizon.

Back in the mid 2000's I was very active buying raw wood veneer in large lots (200 - 600 sq ft per) and frankly haven't used it.  I have at least 2500 sq ft of veneer of varieties that include anigre, bumblebee eucalyptus, figured cherry, paduak, etc.  Most of the lengths are 6+ft.

I am thinking about liquidating this as easily as possible and not reaping the full potential value.

Any advice from those out there on how to proceed?

Reach out to a small specialty veneer retailer and see if they will buy at wholesale so they can sell it at retail? Just a guess but over that timeframe there should have been some appreciation.

Lightening the load in anticipation of moving?

Joe.

"Our website often conveys the image that we are a large corporation with a giant warehouse and dozens of employees. The truth is that our business is operated entirely by me, my wife and a part time helper. We handle everything from customer questions and website maintenance to order packing and credit card processing from a small warehouse here in Forest Hill, Maryland."

Yes, and also admittedly no.  I bought all the veneer with a purpose in mind - not as an investment for resale.  That purpose never materialized and once in storage the costs were all forgotten.  But I have a 12' long shelf in the shed stacked with veneer and I don't see a probable need for it.

I also have some smaller lots of waterfall bubinga and birdseye maple that I will have to decide on later but honestly I have always wanted to those to end up in the hands of a member here who has done fabulous veneer work so that one day I could see those pieces shine.

Hi Peter

My late brother bought a whole bunch of veneer a few years ago. He used a bit for his woodwork teaching but expected to be able to move the rest on in one go. He ended up taking it to shows and selling it in between doing his woodturning demos. By the time he had shifted about half (probably 5-6k UK Pounds) he realised that he was making quite reasonable money and so he bought more !

I am sorry this does not help you but I could not resist telling you about it.

What you have sounds very interesting. Good luck.

I bought a vacuum press and some waterfall bubinga from veneersupplies a few months ago.  So far, I have laid up a few panels but got sidetracked by other priorities.  This is a top for a dresser.  It is completely finished while the rest of the dresser is in limbo.  I hope to complete it before the next visit by Halley's Comet.

I also have a problem with "buying things" but I refuse to admit it.  Feel free to take advantage of me;)

I know the feeling. I have done the same thing over the years. 300 sq ft here, 200 sq ft there and now it's about 3,000 sq ft. If you were closer I'd take a peak at it. Cause if you already have 3,000 sq ft, why not have 5,500??
